Due to other commitments Anthony and Myself are planning to change the structure/way in which the learner boards are loaned out. The whole process is very time consuming and therefore the use of the boards will be limited to Learner Day events only, and hire only to those who show genuine interest in taking up the sport as decided by us. Existing members who already have windsurfing skills will continue to have access to the boards.

If there is anyone else who is interested in taking control of the administration/ storage, teaching/organizing the loan of the boards in its current form please speak up now.

Good effort to everyone who takes the time to encourage beginners.

It can be quite time consuming.

I dont have any time either but i appreciate what you have done.

The guys who look after the learners do a great job, and have done heaps to promote the sport.

It is worth clarifying here (to those who may not be aware) of the changes to "learner days" and board hire.

-People hiring boards need to become members of WT ($35)
-There is a standard rate for hire (rather than a nominal donation) of $50 per week and $80 per fortnight in addition to WT fees
(by the way this is still cheap as chips for someone wanting to get in to the sport)
-Learner days will not be a "free for all" like some have been in the past, as anyone wanting to use a board will need to join WT

I reckon weeding out the people who may not be very serious could help- and even with the above changes it is still a hugely attractive option.

All this aside, when you look at the numbers of windsurfers on the water, the overall result of promoting the sport through this means in Tassie has been extraordinary.

I recall seeing a post about 14 sailors at Carlton two weeks ago. There would be very few mainland sites where there would be 14 sailors out at one place in the same session at that time of year.

In the north I am looking at helping Paul out with the learner gear this season by the way.

Agree with Clarence, you guys are doing a great job. After all out main aim is for people to get their own gear, not to be a source of cheap rental gear.

Big + 1 to all of the replies above. Its been two years now since I first was able to get hold of a learner board from Ant, and have not looked back.
For anyone thinking of hiring the boards for themselves ( or family ) I highly recommend this as an option.
Not only did it confirm the fact that I 'really did' want to get back into the sport after such a long hiatus, the gear was well looked after and maintained, I also got great insight and tips/assistance from the lads from WT as well. If I lived closer to the mainland (being tassie) I would offer to assist with looking after them as I know how much it helped in reviving my passion for the sport.

BTW.... sorry Ant / Damo, regardless of the advice/tips/encouragement, I still haven't managed to get the old 'Starboard' through a full forward loop, well not on purpose anyway

Am looking fir half day kitesurfing in SE Tassie on 1 or 2 Jan 2017. Are you operating those days and do you have two kites and boards and wetsuits we may rent please? My brother and I will be visiting; we both can kite surf, but don't profess to be expert. If you are open for business and have kit to rent, could you advise coast please?
