Yes agree, great work Gill and the revitalised WT team After such an unpleasant last season as far as events and wind goes, lets hope for a smasher of a new season, I don't want to spend another 60 odd days kiting next summer. 5.0 6 days a week will do.

That must be a joke!
For only $35 everyone can read it, and be a member of one of the best clubs in Tassie

I won't give you the red thumb John, but do agree joining up is in the interest of promoting the sport.

Maybe it could be argued that other people reading the minutes would be incentive to join up....but I don't want to open a can of worms.

I say this as a current but sporadic member of WT.

I dont think reading the minutes is going to cause a membership drive,
I think people should stop bull s h i t tng and fence sitting and join WT.
Like it or not all cool sailors are members

Membership should be pro rata, I think this would increase membership

Yeah, good point Jez, need to contact the AWA and ask the question. It makes sense as other organizations know run membership this way.

I think if you could get people to join in summer and know that the membership goes all the way through to next summer the numbers would rise.
Lets face it not many people are thinking of joining a windsurfing group in the middle of winter. (financial year membership).

The race/events calendar starts in late September, the membership covers sailors for participation in these events.
Most sailors became members before the end of November last year, so membership from financial year to financial year makes sense. I will send out motivating reminders this year, along with the race/events calendar to the current members some time in July/August.

I'm sorry I don't know what Pro Rata means....sounds like a side dish for a curry.... as your new treasurer adding whole numbers is about the "sum" of my skills" (I am looking forward to seeing the books when they are sent up from Hobart) . Wiki suggests pro rata would be a proportional cost of membership relating to the month you join?

Pro Rata is an ancient term first used during early Egyptian times. When two or more Sphinx's formed close bonds, they became known as Tight Sphincters. As a sphinx moved around a lot, these bonds came and went at various times for differing durations and did not fall during any set period. After many centuries any animal portraying traits of a Tight Sphincter would also exhibit the need for Pro Rata.

Sorry, i thought rolling membership.
This would help gain more members (especially social/non competitive) i believe. (This means that an individual new membership will be effective for a year after payment is processed).
Not tight sphincter members .

So the secretary would check the membership on a weekly basis so that reminders could be posted out and the Treasurer would calculate the end of year totals working out which proportion of each membership had been used and how much needed to be rolled into the following year. I don't think the AWA follows such a pro rata system and in the end they make the rules.

If enough Sphinxes get together does a Stargate to Uranus open up Buzzy?

I will give you the heads up , Uranus.
Eventually this might happen , AWA will make the ultimate decision, when and if it happens who really cares as long as we can continue to have these humerous but healthy discussions on SB!!
Kind regards

If I was treasurer I would double the cost of WT membership (because it is too cheap) and give 50% off if you pay before 31 Dec and give "pro-rata" 50% off if you pay in the second half of the financial year. Everyone is happy .

WT can most likely do what ever membership arrangement it likes, as long as it pays the $19 insurance premium and $3 affiliation fee for every financial member as of end of March each year to the AWA.

I don't think TidyHQ would accomodate any pro rata or rolling membership, but I could ask if the committee wants someone from within the AWA or WWA to check.

If you don't know what TidyHQ is, become a member of WT to find out.

I agree with Danien that any form of rolling membership or pro rata membership would add huge administrative burden.

WT has the cheapest membership of any of the states with social membership at $35 and competitor membership that includes free entry to all WT events each season for $50.

It really is pretty cheap for anyone who windsurfs or is keen to learn to support their local association.

If you burden the committee with too much admin, nobody will step forwards to take on committee positions. I am seeing this in one of the associations I am involved with at the moment. Compared to other sports/pastimes, WT is VERY cheap, and we have an active and productive committee - we are on a winner! I think it's up to members to join early to maximize their membership $.
