While only just related to windsurfing, I still figure some one on here may be able to help me. I made a Wind skater from my brothers long board and some old gaastra rig from the 90's I had lying around (5.0 with a single cam) and have been bombing around the yacht club car park for a while and love it. But people are getting sick of me bumping into things in the confined space, so I was wondering if anyone knew of some wide open, mostly empty, smoothly concreted area's where I could take it for a shred. And does anyone else have one? Maybe we could hold an event or something, wind-skating slalom races?? Next big thing?

sounds like a good idea ive got one with big wheels so can go on grass and sand so that helps sunday carparks and the regata grounds are good

Yeah I've seen those, they look pretty awesome! I just made mine with whatever I had lying around, but it still is wicked fun on concrete. I cant find any carparks that the wind gets into though.. there are always buildings and stuff around.. And I hadnt considered the regatta grounds, I'll check it out, thanks!

we all talked about it a few years back, i.e the British make one called the " turf dog".
apparently the best you can get.

A lot of talk was done but no overall interest, I.E we go supping, feed the kids, feed the wife, walk the dog etc. wait for real windsurfing.
I think if there were more people your age in tassie sailing there may be a bigger following.

We used to use The Police skid pan at rokeby back in the early 1890s, sorry 1990,s.

I used to windskate at Macquarie wharf before the Fun Police locked it up. It was great. Catapulting onto bitumen was'nt! No splash...big SPLAT
The only place that might be OK that I've seen is the double tennis court at Taroona Primary School. It faces north. Not huge space but a possibilty and deserted on weekends. The other spot I have scoped is the new concrete promenade at Sandy Bay Beach. I've ruled it out for windskating because I'll spear off the edge or harpoon a Lycra Lady, her latte and poodle! I do Dogskate it though.(Black Lab Tow Dog)
I might even drill a hole in the nose of my longboard for old times sake, whack a rig on and go for it. I will be wearing my motorbike helmet.

Macquarie wharf would have been a dream!! And i've thought about sandy bay, but I really dont want to hit anyone... If you ever do end up going let me know, would love to come! Im gonna try and find another set of gear so I can give my brothers back to him and have my own, then we will atleast have two. :p

Since the olden days the rules for the skid pan have changed. . Probably not a great idea.
What about rosny tennis courts at the bottom of the oval?

We have a couple up this end of the state (Launceston) they are a lot of fun when the winds a bit light

I say the skid pan still with alcohol, crack pipe and arms deals.

Thats the beauty of the board with the big wheels I guess, you have heaps more places open to you! But the road wheels would probably be way faster on concrete? Have you compared it Rustbucket?

Damo, not sure if I really want to take that risk.

The ones we have are mountain boards with pump up wheels which are great on the beach and any hard surface. I dont know if I would want to go any faster as these sometimes get the speed wobbles over about 40kph...heaps of fun though

I have long wondered where to get one of the larger wheeled landsailer, like the ones that sailboards australia in Sydney's northern beaches used to sell in the 80s.





The ones rustbucket and bearhoover use are pretty cool, but the larger wheels take on any terrain with exceptional handling and SPEED. In five to eight knots you can do well over 20km/hr.

I have found the place, the original "speedsailer" from France, as invented by the Baron himself (Arnuad de Rosnay). They sell a truck and wheel kit.
