a lot has changed in 10 years. its the modern freestyle sailing that has drawn a lot of the younger generation in , and they blast backwards and forwards quite happily without a gps.
gps is without a doubt big in Tassie, and keeps people interested but thats because we are full of old crocs! who cant bend at the knees.
L ets keep the sport interesting and diverse so newcomers can decide for themselves, especially the kiddies!!
go gps, go waves, go freestyle, go blasting and bump and jump.
Hey, I'm not trying to defend GPS sailing, I'm just excited about it and enjoying it and have been wearing a GPS most sessions for the last 4 years or so. I know my sailing has improved as a result. The gear is way better now than 10 years ago, but GPS units would have been just as good back then with the older gear. It's obviously not the GPS units that are getting people into sailing Damo, it's people who are sailing getting GPS units to add another dimension to their sailing (through providing a reference point and challenging themselves to try increase their PB's).
By the way, it's not just Tassie sailors who are into GPS sailing, there are almost 850 GPS sailors signed up to the Aussie GPS TC and over 2500 competing in the International GPSSS.
This post was to congratulate a new member to the Tassie Speed Seekers. Please stop hijacking these posts and demeaning what a lot of Tassie sailors are enjoying. I know it's s*!t-stirring, but throw enough mud and some of it will stick.
