We've talked about this before and we do have a distinct lack of wave spots here in the South east region; or do we?

I've got two spots in mind to have a bash at, both require a decent size swell.

1/ Iron Pot - on the Eastern side of the Iron Pot there is a bit of a ledge/reef type of thing that gets an average right hander. This may also be a great jumping spot as its a clear approach. Winds would be W round to SW. This spot may be a waste of time, but it may also be an awesome fun spot. Access is from Blessington Street South Arm and sail out. Swell would need to be pushing small point size(3-4m with south). Paiso may have more info and an idea if its worth the look or not.
The other option in this area is a bombie/kelp break btween Iron Pot and RSL's. Its a bit fat but may produce the jumping we've been missing. This spot needs a wedge swell+. (over 3m with south)

2/ Kelpies - Big s to SW swell and a Southerly wind. Left hand fat point break. The points just a low lying bit of land sticking out. Walk from White beach until theres enough wind to launch and sail upwind to break. May have to contend with surfers. This spot may have been sailed years back.

Lots of places within 5 hrs of Hobart.
Just that nowadays it seems very few travel much to go wavesailing, unlike our speed sailors who are happy to travel to Stanley, Henty etc.(for a day)
Seems odd to me.

We have plenty of wind & swell down here but unfortunately not often on the same day.Bump & jump at places like Dorans etc has taken over because chasing the waves can be very frustrating & often fruitless.
I think we get it pretty good down here for general sailing but if you want to go wavesailing you need to travel.

Or .... when the conditions are right try something different and dont expect to have to sail right on the beach to get something a bit more special than usual, right in your back yard!!

I would like to think that theres plenty of breaks within 5hours of Hobart; thats the whole of the state covered! And yes to travel would get you some awesome conditions, buy you are missing the point of this post!
I agree; why chase waves and get frustrated by going to average places on fickle forecasts when at least you get a sail at Dorans
You can stick to Dorans if you like but when the conditions allow for something exciting then I wouldnt mind having a crack at some other options, I'm hoping that theres one or two others that are keen to get out there aswell. I find it odd that people drive to Carlton for the day and think their going wavesailing

I'm still keen for a wave sail if we go as a group as buzzy said and look out for each other.

Cheers Russ

I reckon we should wait for Daves leg to heal and send him out by himself first. IF he doesnt come back then it was a bad idea!!, and we go back to Dorans

The bay that Andy is talking about faces east and sweeps around from a headland where you can launch to the mouth of the bay probably about 1K?? away. I reckon it would work well in an easterly which would be directly on shore but would be better if there was a little north in it. Not an expert but would love to try it with some moral support. (Yes I'm a chicken too but I reckon Andy is worse).
