Hey fellow windsurfers, planning to visit Tassie in October for about a week, taking the ferry and bringing gear. No exact dates at this stage. Ferry looks like it lands in Devenport, which appears to be near Port Sorrell? Anyway if and when I land might ask for feedback on where to sail, and hope to catch up with a few of you guyz? Hardie

Keeping in mind PS is tidal. But sailable from 2hours before during and after. Either side of the low tide. Best directions is anything from north west, heading around to west.

Mouth of the Tamar river is a little further East from Port Sorell (about an hour or so).
Referred to on here as "Low Head" or "Lagoon Bay"
No sand bar but great long runs.
Wind often hits there when its fickle elsewhere and is good in a lot of wind directions.. happy to show you around if the wind plays ball

Just one week, two weeks should see you done ,such little travel compared to WA , 300 km between wind, and sight seeing, The boys ,and girls will tell you where the wind is at, 24 hours beforehand, kids and shelias, can bring you unstuck, but hey that's life.September October normally the windy season. Post on S.B TAS and local KN should entail for good sight seeing, and WIND, everybody loves a sailling enthusiast, hope 20+ knots for you everyday while your here.

Hardie if you're into waves Marrawah is a must

Also if you haven't already done so check the Spot Guide:
www.thespotguide.com.au/TAS/index.html

Stanley is not in the guide yet but it's one of the top flat water and speed spots, cookie01 lives up near there so he'll send you in the right direction.

Thanx for all the support guys!!!

Update: Leaving WA Sat 26th Sept, driving over with windsurf trailer. Car and trailer booked on Spirit of Tasmania Friday 2nd of October (Night).

So should be there Sat 3rd of October.

My daughter is living in Hobart with her boyfriend so will be visiting there for about 3 to 5 days.

I'm intending on staying about 2 weeks to do some serious windsurfing.

I'll leave my phone number here when I've arrived.

I'll be checking weather forecasts, obviously would love to speed sail Stanley if conditions allow. Would also love to wavesail Marrawah, but too many broken bones, and massive loss of fitness means I'm no longer capable of sailing hardcore wavespots. Not that I couldn't sail the waves, its just when things go pear shaped as they inevitably do, no longer have what it takes to survive massive wipeouts, and don't wanna risk breaking anymore bones. But I'd definitely like to check the place out and take photos.

Thanx and looking fwd to catching up with you guyz

If you can pack some of the "Doctor" in your trailer, and unleash it on a good low tide. That will put a smile on everyone's dial. Safe travels and look forward to having a sail when you arrive.

Hi Guyz, on the ferry tonight, hopefully in Devonport by Saturday morning.

Have some family commitments to attend to but was thinking either a quick sail saturday near Devonport, or wait till tues/wed next week.

Daughter is living in Hobart, so will be hanging around there from sat/sun till tues/wed? Planning on staying 2 to 3 weeks to get some decent wind hopefully if all goes well.

my phone is zero four three nine nine zero four two one two

Hi Hardie. If I were you I'ld be zipping down to Hobart once you got off the ferry for an afternoon sail in Hobart. It's supposed to be near gale force winds down here tomorrow. Forecast for up the northern end of Tas tomorrow doesn't look that great, but down south here it will be going off! If you want GPS, bump & jump stuff I'ld be heading for Dorans Rd, where I think most will be, or if you want a wave sail Carlton Beach will be the goer. For directions to both check out our spot guide www.thespotguide.com.au

Lagoon , Low head is looking pretty good for Saturday. There should also be some Bump and Jump at East beach.

Should be lots out enjoying the conditions. There was a fair number out yesterday.
