Maybe some wind at Doran's Sat arvo? I might set the first longboard gps speed record at Doran's. Anything to get out sailing will be good.
Russ, Marlon, are to up to the challenge?

Ok, having "done the time" working in the backyard, I have a leave pass for tomrrow arvo. Consider the gauntlet picked up Easty. I'll be over at Dorans tomorrow arvo - Sunday (probaly from about 1 pm). The forecast shows there may be some wind - maybe - but I'll be bringing the longboard and the GPS anyway so guranteed to ge some sort of result.

Have tested out my data cable on the GPS and can download tracks. I have also found that the latest version of google earth supports downloading tracks. Took the GPS on a Kayak mission from Cornelian bay - Geilston Bay - Shag bay return. It ws pretty cool to look at the track overlaid on google earth. I gather my GPS (wristwatch style Foretrex 201) isn't the best for speed analysis but should be able to get something from the tracks anway.

Cheers

Cool, i'm going to have a look around lunch time tomorrow too

I had a look this arvo, their was a little bit of wind, if it was summer and i wasn't so sore from footy I would have gone for a muck around, but just not worth the pain.

Ok, Easty, looks like your the Dorans longboard speed champ . . . . for the moment. Here is my download. Top speed comes out a little less from my GPS than what it displays as top speed on the LCD . Anway, have verified the whole GPS speed download thing is simple and works. Got us motivated to go out on a less than idela day (freezing cold and fickle wind) which has to be a good thing !

Well done Easty on your first official long board record/win at Dorans today. It was a close contest and sounds like Marlon is out to steal your crown next time!

Good work Marlon on getting all your GPS stuff up and running and posting your results. Yer you shoud def post to the GPS Challenge Marlon, very new to it myself and really enjoying the GPS Challenge concept

Ok - I am convinced. As I pretty much sail a wave/b& j board exclusively, I wasn't keen to spring for a new GPS just to join up. Now I've got things going with my current unit I can see its just a case of taking it along when I sail. The posting aspect seems to be very easy I have to admit.

Cheers

That's great Marlon and it was good fun on Sunday.

PS The display will always show more than the 2 second maximum as the display is the maximum speed recorded (ie 1 reading) whereas the 2 second maximum is the average of your best three consecutive readings (ie 1-1-1, whereby the dashes represent each second and the 1's represent each reading from the GPS that make up your two second run). Your display reading will usually equal the middle "1", with the other two readings usually dragging the peak down!! Probably didn't explain that well, but hopefully you get what I mean.

Hope you do join the GPS Challenge!! If you join before the end of the month, you can add your session from Sunday and it will show along with Easty's!!

That'll look really cool in the waves or imagine the freestyle view

Maybe some one on shore videoing that at the same time

Here is East Beach on Sunday, only interesting because there was a little bit of wind and it was my first sail for 3 months.

It was around 3:30 pm, air temp around 9 degrees and water temp around 11 degrees, Fanatic FSW 85, Severne Gator 5.7.

The filming was done from the headland near the lighthouse which was a little ambitious for the crappy camera I have. Regardless, it does emphasise how tiny a sailboard is, which I guess was the motivation for trying such a long shot.

The music is some Portuguese dude covering "life on mars" I think.

Hey Al, nice vid and soundtrack. Provides some perspective on sailing across Bass Strait (which I'm keen to do). Doesn't take much to become invisble (or near enough to)!!

Dave it's about time you and Steve pulled your fingers out and took on Bass Strait, make sure you do it in record time and beat the kiters
