For those who are keen, it's a 6am start (on the water) at Mortimer's for a quick 200km sail that includes a fast 1 hour and a good NM. See you there ...

Wind should be fresh from the SSW, easing in the afternoon.

Excellent Russ,

Forecast is looking good. Steve and Kaleb are both keen too. I'll probably get there around 5am, to make sure I'm on the water by 6am. Wind should be at its strongest early.

See you then ...

Nice one guys and all the best Yer I'm keen for an early start, just a bit worried about how wet and muddy the track is going to be. So depending on the wind direction i'll sail at the lagoon or Dorans

The track in shouldn't be too bad, as there hasn't been too much rain, just gun it all the way

Mission accomplished with a good distance, NM and 1 hr result which places us in top position for the month so far. Awesome effort by Kaleb posting high scores in every division including a 300 km distance effort.

Well done team. Check out the session at: gpsteamchallenge.com.au/sailor_session/show?date=2011-09-11&team=27

Kaleb,

When you said in your gps post it was cold, I agree, took ages to get warm after. That hail storm was a bit of fun as well, felt like someone sticking pins in your face(not that I am into voodoo). When the hail storm hit I remember thinking; god I love sailing in Tassie. Just as well we old barnacles are tough in Tassie. Well done to all..

Bear,
That catapult looked quite spectacular from the rigging area. Sorry it cost a boom.

Good team outing

cheers Russ

That's some serious dedication to speed sailing given the icy southerly blast that was ripping through, 300+km is epic.

The Tamar was very different on Sunday with blue sky all day and a fickle 10 to 20 kt southerly that disappeared around 2pm. I got out on the 7.5 for an hour and was probably on the plane about %60 percent of the time. I thought it might have been good conditions at Marrawah but Bom is saying otherwise.

I didn't see anyone else out on the Tamar but sometimes in the southerlies conditions are better closer to Launceston. The out going tide most of the day meant that I was sailing upwind most of the time just to stay in the same spot.

That wasn't a catapult Russ. It was simply a well known and fairly expensive brand of boom crapping itself. That is the second one in less than two years. By the way, great effort all you early risers.
