I'm going to be up the NW for 4 days starting this weekend, and hoping to get on the water in a few spots. Primarily east inlet .

Wondering if someone can show me a google map of where you go in/launch from.
I remember about 15 years ago, driving in around some scrub/camping area, and having to walk through the dunes (I think dunes - maybe it was flat) to the beach area to get into a channel. It's hard to make out on google maps, but it looks like there is a track before the group of houses - or do you go through the clearing paddock?
Also, can I get everyone to setup their large fans and point them west on sunday?

zoom out from there johnny, that is zoomed in on the rigging area which has a toilet and shower....

Oh and be mindfull close to the mouth of the inlet on an outgoing tide.. it really rips out of there... Keep some distance and you dont even notice it.

If you see a guy on the beach with heaps of water gear his name is Ron... Tell him Ben said hi and he may give you a sausage or Anzac Biscuit...

Ron is a top bloke who hangs out there and teaches people water sports.. he even has a boat that he rescues people who cant get back by themselves!!

The forecast keeps looking better with ESE. I've found a decent GPS android app (for those geeks playing at home) that should feed my distance and speed addiction that is brewing - thanks Ben - so ill see how that goes tomorrow as well.

Also found a nice mount for my camera for $7 delivered, which I'm going to try and mount somewhere on my board too.

Anyway, pray for 5 more knots :-)

Good luck mate remember to put the boom up. In the long run you will be better off with the gt-31 gps.

After port sorell with you guys I've had the boom up about 80-100mm and it certainly makes a huge difference. Definately a hot tip that has made a difference even when I didn't think I was ready!

I know it's inevitable that I'll get a gt 31, but I'm a tightass :-) I'm a gadget geek so it's just a matter of time...like weeks ...

But like everything, it needs to be approved by the minister of finance and entertainment and I fear I may have blown my budget this calendar year!

Is the android app built for speed sailing, as in does it calculate 2 second peak and alphas> or just maximum speed?

Just grabbing a coffee from the swinging anchor cafe waiting for the tide. Probably 1/2hr before I'm out there. Looks bloody brilliant to say the least. It's blowing directly onshore at the ramp down to the beach guesstimating 20knots.

The android app just captures everything every second.
I read that there is a list of approved gps's for gpstc so I assume I won't be able to use the gpx data, but at least I'll know how far I travelled and how fast I went... I'm not needing decimal places and everything else.
I'll post the unofficial details here anyway...assuming that it actually wors in the sandwich bags in my vest pouch :-)
Edit:doesn't the software work out the specific details? I thought the gps just logged pure data, I think...it just means the android app for example only does coords and not hdop/vdop etc...technobabble...

Glad to hear its humming for you, is it low tide by any chance for you?

Your right about having approved methods for gpstc but it will certainly keep you sheeting in hard until you get a gt-31.
Given your it skills and love of gadgetry you may even want to look at the bgt-31 which is the Bluetooth model.
Definitely post up what you came up with here though and I too hope the sanger bags does the job!

Yea yea, I can hear you all saying, get a GT31... pfft. A new sail might be more on the cards before a GPS I reckon ... we'll see.

The beers and the view up here top it all off. The wife took some awesome shaky footage which I'll edit together and upload sometime too.

Pretty sure this is the 'upload' only app mate. You use your GT31, take out your SD card and put it in your android phone/laptop and use this app to analyse it, and upload it.
Don't believe its a GPS logger application - but I'll check it out later.

I have a spare gt-31 here you can borrow for a few weeks... I was going to say until you got hooked but I think its too late for that.

For all we know your phone may be innacurate by 6 knots , even if you didnt do 30 I bet it felt like you did

I'm enjoying getting back into this sport so much it's not funny. I wish I had the gear and some financial assistance to advance in Windsurfing back when I was a kid, teaching myself everything I know, and now having to re-learn with new gear.
I'm already over this Synergy sail(!don't blame the tools!), and feel as if it's holding me back, but I know my technique isn't quite right yet either.. I found before I hook in that I had to push the sail away with my mast hand or it would nose dive for example, which I've felt before with this sail, and I assume is when I'm overpowered with this sail, BUT, once I've hooked in - everything lights up...???
It's weird, the sail wants to fly itself mast first towards me back into the water... I guess it could be the rigging?

Nice one mate. Did you try the channels further out, heap longer and better. But still looks like a good way to try east inlet for you.

Nah mate. It was pretty fresh, and the kids spent about 5 minutes out of the car before realising how cold it was, so I was under the pump time wise.
I managed to get upwind around the southern corner into the next channel to see the run, and knew that channel would be my new home, so I didn't go there.
I was getting some nice, although gusty runs in, and really wanted to get the feel for carving the board, but not getting too far away that the boss couldn't see me - I had to impress her, and she had to take the video/photo's - a cunning plan to make the next sailing trip easier to arrange because now she's way impressed :-D

Any thoughts on my mast hand problem?

the synergy rig packages have all the settings marked on the boom and mast base. so i presume you set it according to the markings?.
The synergy rigs/ sails are aimed at early to intermediate so dont expect more than that out of them. If rigged to specifications they should perform adequately.
perhaps rigging and just technique might help.

Upgrade to a higher spec mast and sail to increase performance and rig stability.

I've tried several different configurations, the obvious - rigging to the settings.
I decided it was the gear in > ~20knots. Regardless of how I'm rigging it. On Sunday I rigged the sail to the full extent - I remember thinking, I couldn't have any more downhaul even if I wanted too. I noticed the leech became nice and lose like I would hope - although I think more than I have had before. I did notice when trying a clew first waterstart - and failing, but managing to flip the sail over anyway, that the batten above the boom wan't pinching my fingers around the mast like it had before - so I think I had the sail rigged, near enough to optimum. I guess this is what it's all about hey? Get the most out of your gear :-).
Thanks anyway guys - once I'm hooked in its ok, so I'll just stay on the board and then I shouldn't have any problems
