Fantastic day at Park heaps of fun with 16!!!!!!! sailors on the water
Special thanks to Buzzy for organising the event, I know he spent hours working out the format which would be fair and fun for all level of sailors.
Big thanks to the crippled judges Fluro and Russ and to Relic who somehow managed to spend more time behind the camera than in the water.
Heaps of fun with plenty of crashes............. can't wait for the northern wave.

So much action today Tim and I were on the edge of our seat all day watching the action...
Firstly this fast paced format works; we got through two full rounds of sailing four in a heat. Waves were so nice and the wind was blasting Nice work Buzzy!!!

Standard was very high, everyone got in and out safe there were some huge jumps and very nice wave rides. The vibe around the sailors was so positive, I was so proud and excited to see a result in a Southern Tassie Wave event with 16 keen sailors all going for it. The pictures will tell more of the story, but believe me the standard was very high and a big congratulations to everyone who sailed, you were part of the event that I think is a real landmark. Tim and I just wanted to be on the water with you. Wave sailing is back baby

When Buzzy posts results I will provide comments for each sailor but from Tim and I you all did so well. There were score sheets full of marks, some results were soooo close, so well done to all.

Lucky dip day! Really enjoyed the day but would have like to have been out sailing more. Hope I don't offend anyone saying this but I kind of don't enjoy having heats especially in freezing conditions. Spent a lot of time standing around getting cold ie, I was in the first heat and had to stand around for 5 other heats to sail again and by that time I was chilled to the bone and light headed. Buzzy really well organised, very professional, the good thing about heats your able to watch others sailing. And big thanks to the judges you were very entertaining to stand next too.

Thanks for your feedback Kazza, its good to hear both positive and negative views so we can make changes for next time and create a better format. I've had a look at how things panned out for kazz and others in that situation and have a solution worked out for next time that will help a little with the issue of having to wait for long periods(to be informed later). The unfortunate thing is that some will always have to wait for a period of time, thats just the way things go.
Heats encourage a higher level of sailing, giving people the opportunity to actually stop and watch others sail and reflect on what they have to do to increase their own standard. Running a seeding heat, allows everyone to sail in the same amount of heats. With a double elimination it gives the lower ranks that may have had a bad start for whatever reasons to climb back into the higher rankings. Unfortunately due to the crap weather we only ran the single elimination.
To move things faster we may look at increaseing the number of sailors in each heat to 5, although this will put higher demand on the judging side but may be possible.
When we have a nice warm day and you have to sail in 4 heats you'll be complaining about having to go sailing so many times

Yes I find I learn a lot from watching others sailing and in the heat situation and doing some judging as well your forced to do that, I find it hard to watch on just normal days sailing because I want to be out there all the time. You could increase the number in the heats because there's so many judging. Also it was good to get the tips on judging it helps which are the best moves to try and pull off too.
Please order for the next event some more sun please and I'll bring more layers to rug up and a thermos full of tea

I think the format is about as good as it gets, everyone had two heats & we got a winner. A bit of free- sailing also.
You do get a bit chilled standing around but any more than 4 in heat makes it more difficult to judge, we could speed things up a bit by having the next heat lined up on the water's edge ready to go as soon as the current heat ends.
A fun day & well done everyone under pretty testing conditions, when's the next one????

Maybe after the first round of heats is over there could be freesailing for about 20 -30 mins, then back onto the heats again.....just a thought. Oh and PS I'm a Robertson not a Roberts.

I reckon the format was fantastic and I really enjoyed watching the others sail. There are plenty of days for free-sailing, so happy on an 'event' day to focus on the event. Was also great to see everyone keeping out of the water while the events were being run (except for that one kite-sailor)! Can't wait for the next event!
