BOM reckons it is going to blow from the south-west on Saturday up north and I am thinking of travelling up to catch it. Any recommendations on where to go? I was thinking Bell Bay but I have never been there to know what it is like. Anyone else interested?
It could be Ok but also unpredictable. I have had some good sails at Lagoon and Bell Buoy on a southwesterly forecast but I don't think there will be any swell on Saturday so probably Lagoon.
I would check the Cape Grimm readings before you set off. If Cape Grimm is reading over 25 kts then it should be OK.
I hope to sail Lagoon tomorrow in the middle of the day and sail again on Saturday after work though at this stage I think sailing earlier in the day on Saturday looks safer.
Had you thought of coming up for a sail tomorrow (Friday).
South west is Ok at lagoon bay but usually gusty and obviously very cold. Not my preferred direction but by the looks of the forecast it will be strong enough. If it has more west in it it will be better. Not sure if I will be there this weekend sailing, have some other plans in the pipeline
Hey Al...Have you ever sailed at Bell Bouy on the other side of the point? It looks ok on a SW from google earth. Just wondering if it had been sailed before.(Blue area)
I have sailed that area in an easterly and it is more accessible now the subdivision is there. In a SW I usually sail towards the east end of the main beach. On the west of the point I guess the rocks down wind are a bit off putting and also the reef that is visible on the photo blocks the swell a bit.
It would be interesting to go out there and check the jumping potential of the reef, it might be as good as that reef off the Dport Airport.
Hello Al, from what I am hearing it could be a bit sus on Saturday and Ben and Paul can't make it so I am going to hang off until we get a better day. I couldn't make it today because of work. Would be interested to hear how you go because there has been bugger all here. By the way, where is Lagoon Beach?
I got tied up with work too. Cape Grimm was SSW for most of the day so to much south in it for good Lagoon conditions I think BOM says it was around the 13 to 20 kts (and gusty as well) so maybe OK for big sails but not the best. I hope tomorrow is better as I finish work around 3pm but I don't like the look of the forecast.
Lagoon is the river facing beach at Low Head only a few hundred meters from East Beach where we sailed last time.
