looking into revitalizing my quiver to suit slalom/gps sailing. I've managed to track down the right sails so that I can rig everything from 5.4 to 8.5 on a 460 mast.
The question is....RDM or SDM? I dont sail consistently enough to feel the difference so really I just want to know what everyone else is using so when I buy your second hand sails their cams will fit on my mast.
I can never remember what RDM & SDM stands for, so I call them the fat mast & skinny mast. I'd go the fat mast, suits all the race sails and their cams. Some high tech race sails are very mast sensitive and made to rig on their own brand masts. I'm selling my 6.0 Severne Overdrive as soon as my new 6.2 arrives if your after a slalom/gps sail, it's not so mast sensitive & rigs on fat or skinny.
Rule of thumb, RDM's are stronger and take more punishment. I would only use SDM in full race sails. This probably doesnt answer your question though, sorry!
Your Nitro 5s will only rig on a sdm. If you get an sdm of about 60 to 75 %carbon it will be a lot less likley to break and you won;t notice the difference in performance. Are those Nitros my old sails? They were great sails!
I've been trying to figure out who i bought them from, they made me the windsurfer I am...thanks very much.
Unfortunately I didn't look after the 100% NP 460 you also sold me as well as I have the sails...it came to a fairly catastrophic end in a shore break last easter
mast curve [ not stiffness] is totally opposite between Neil Pryde and Severne, SO remember choose what sail brand you want to rig before buying a mast. wrong mast on wrong sail will rig like poo!, especially with some brands. Look at Unifibre mast compatability chart to see the differences between brands.
