Kaleb and I went to a meeting tonight at Honeywell drive with a group of residents concerned with the proposed development of the reserve on the foreshore of the lagoon.

MAST have put in an application to the Clarence Council to have the reserve developed into a gravel carpark with a concrete boat ramp and jetty.

The development not only ruins the natural beauty of the place, it will restrict our access to the water and means the boat traffic will increase dramatically and potentailly ruin this spot for sailing.

Kaleb will scan the proposed plan and post it onto this forum.

The proposal looks like being fast tracked through the Council so we need to move quickly if we want to save this beautiful area from becoming another Dorans cark park.

There will be a meeting of residents, windsurfers and other concerned people, 7.30pm Friday 18th at Honeywood Drive.

We need as many people as we can get so please come along, we are meeting on the foreshore.
If anyone needs any further information contact Kaleb (0417 163603) or Anthony (0417 577884)

If you look at the proposal you will see 19 parking spots allocated and a turning circle where windsurfers have traditionally parked and NO access to the lower area we use frequently.

That absolutely sucks!
No consideration what so ever for the most frequent users of this area.
Has no one ever noticed us in the last 25 years.,
The fact the ramp/ carpark is proposed but not even any area we can rig our gear, who wants to rig on roadbase!.

I encourage everyone who has ever used this area to get on board and fight this developement. Tell all ex/ new windsurfers to send in a letter when the proposal is released for public opinion.
We've lost the Causeway, Marion bay, Parts of Dorans carpark..... they are not getting this one!
What a !bunch of pricks!

This is bull****, why the hell do they want parking for 19 cars? What a nice view that would be for the locals that live along the foreshore! Boaties already have a nice natural car park on Cremorne lagoon with out bugger all maintenace costs to council and rate payers, it seems silly to encourage extra boat traffic through Cremornes narrow channel anyway.
Honeywood is a great place for families and kids and windsurfers as it is with out having to worry about increased traffic and covering it all in bloody gravel.

Great to get as many people along Friday 7.30pm, those who can't make it call Buzzy like he said to show your support, we're going to need everyone in this to win.

It might be worth contacting Birds Australia (Tasmania) as this development would likely impact on the bird species that use this area as well, not dissimilar to the Ralphs Bay thing specifically the increase of both foreshore and on water traffic.

The bigger issue I see is the increase of markers and bouys in the lagoon, their always right where you want to sail!! and given that this would likely become a formal (or more formal nav channel) what implications does that have, if any, for sailing in that space in terms of rights of way?

Better check with the Oyster Farmers as well, they might be dead set against it as well.

Thanks Kazza and Valleyboy, they're good points you've raised.

Kaleb has talked to the oyster growers and the residents group contacted them again yesterday, we are pretty sure they are against it.

Also contacted the paddlers from the clifton Surf Club, there's a couple of them coming to the meeting tomorrow night.

Also made contact with save Ralphs bay committee to see if they can help.

Good point about the extra nav poles they'll place in the water, they will be a safety hazard for the sailors.

Kaleb and I are knocking up a submission to put to council so we'll add that in.
Anyone else with any ideas doesn't matter how big or small post them on this forum of contact Kaleb or me.

With more boats and trailers entering the water there could be a small possibility of introducing oyster diseases/parasites?
I hate the bloody things but better than a car park.

Ahhh yes, the evil little buggers, had a run in with them today - sliced and diced some cracking cuts and even managed to stab my foot through booties!!

Buzzy, Ant, I can't make the meeting but definitely throw my support behind you guys. Hopefully some of the local kiters will be there. Let me know how it goes.

If it does go pearshaped and you have to use our side of the pond, we'll keep the fees low hehe .

The meeting last Friday night was very successful with local residents, windsurfers and Clifton paddlers all turning up.

Phil Morrisby, spokesperson for the local residents gave us a run down of the position to date.

Basically as already explained MAST have a plan to develop the grassland reserve at Honeywood Drive into a new gravel carpark with a jetty and concrete boat ramp.
The plans have been drawn up but according to the Council have not yet been submitted to Council.
Council have said they can not discuss any grievances we have until the plans are submitted.

Kaleb and I have drafted a submission ready to go to Council as soon as the Development Application has been submitted.
I spoke to Phil Morrisby tonight and the local residents are currently drafting a submission.
The surf ski paddlers who are members of the clifton Surf club along with the oyster growers also oppose the development so we should see subbmissions coming from them.

I will ring Helen Ayres at the Council who we believe will be handling the Development Application from MAST to voice our opposition.

Great to see so many concerned people getting behind and opposing this development.
