The Wild Care Friends of Lumeah Point and the Cremorne Lagoon oyster growers have organised a working bee to clean up some of the oysters in and around the lagoon on Sunday 6th April.

Be great if we can get as many windsurfers as possible to help. The local community will be working on the foreshore and the windsurfers out on the Lagoon.

The work will be coordinated by the oyster growers. They will provide us with gloves, safety glasses crates etc. and they will then pick up the full crates by barge.

It's up to us what section or sections we want to clean up first so have a think about that.
Obviously the more people we can get out there the more we clean up, so if you can spare one or two hours or more that will be great.

This is the last chance this season as it is pretty much the last low tide before winter.

Time: 8.30 - 11am (low tide)
Date: 6th April
Venue: Honeywood Drive (Cremorne Lagoon)

I made a mistake with the time, clean up starts 8am not 8.30. That gives one hour before dead low tide and one hour after.
I need to get an idea of how many sailors we can get so I can notify Mike from the oyster growers who is coordinating the clean up.

Any takers ..................please...... could be a bit lonely on my own

Will the tide adjust to take account of daylight saving like cows and chooks do?

Fantastic response.

PLEASE ALL BRING A LIFE JACKET OR BUOYANCE VEST THESE ARE COMPULSORY

Because this is an organised event with Wild Care and the Oyster Industry these OH&S rules apply, pretty much the same as any WT competition. Hope you all understand.

Mike Webb from the Oyster Growers Ass. will brief us at 8am.
All participants will need to sign in, receive gloves, protective glasses and high vis vests at the sign in tent. If you've got your own that's great.

It's up to us, the windsurfers, to decide what area we want cleaned up this working bee.
Would be a good idea to have our usual Friday night get together at the Pond so we can work out a plan of attack.

Thanks everyone for responding so well

Houston, please bring a front end loader. It'll make it easier, just bring one from the farm, that way no one will give a **** about it getting salty

This is going to be awesome for the windsurfers that use the lagoon. It is a great place to sail and will be the location of many events next season. Events such as beginner days, slalom events and intermediate to advanced tutorials. It would be great if everyone could donate and hour or two of their time, work hard and get rid of those little razor sharp buggars. As Damo said; If you don't help then shut the fk up about the oysters!!!! I'm sure that's what he said!

There will be a ferrying service across the 20m channel just after briefing for those that don't have their own means(you could paddle your windsurfer if you want) the ferry will be SUP boards piloted by windsurfing's finest.

I'll be wearing a wetsuit with old sneakers for protection of the feat.

I'll have a spare buoyancy vest, although once you are on the dry sand/oyster bar you wont need to be wearing one ;) ;)

Appleman does an awesome job organising the Dorans road clean up each year, he will be there to lead the way amp everyone up!

Tubs for oysters and safety gear are being supplied by the oyster growers; lets show these guys we own the lagoon just as much as they do and are prepared and willing to support both industry and recreation in this awesome area.

We need to also acknowledge the fact that the growers are well aware of our presence in the lagoon and want to work together to make the area inviting, safe and sustainable for all users. They are a great bunch of people and deserve our assistance.

PLEASE COME ALONG AND LEND A HAND

When you get to the Pond look for Jan at the tent to sign in.
Try and get there just before 8am as Mike the Oyster Catcher will brief us but if you are a bit late not a problem Jan will set you on the way.
Frank will have a few snags ready when we finish at around 10.

Damo worked out we moved close to 10 tonnes not too bad for a bunch of alcoholics

I'll have a talk with Mike to see if they could knock up a couple of light weight punts. Most of our effort was put into carting crates to the barges. If we work out a better system we could double productivity pretty easily.

Mike asked whether we wanted another working bee in about three week what do people think.

Wow! Great turnout guys, and huge effort!
Once you start you can see how quickly places can be improved - we've been working at Rosey at the low tides clearing the Launching area with great results. Now its nice smooth mud
