Its been an epic Easter for wind and it has been fantastic to catch up with so many people over the break. While the wind has been a little changeable there has been great sailing on all the days at Lagoon and even the fickle Bell Buoy has had its moments. The windiest part of the day has tended to be after 3pm for some reason though there was an epic storm that went through in the early hours of Sunday morning that suprisingly, didnt produce much swell.

Here are a few photos from Bell Buoy on Sunday

Al, look like you were having fun out there. I'll be firing up the van for a few more trips up north and would love to catch up on the waves. Still keen to get out there, Ben and Paul, if you are reading this, get your act together!!! Johnny, you too. Bell Buoy and East Beach are calling you, I can hear it from here.

Nice pic's Al - maybe we need an online photo library setup - I'll get onto that ;-)

Rod - you're dreamin. I can break masts (2 now) on flat water without really trying, let alone waves as well
Oh yea, Al - that mast you sold me...

One day, when I can afford more gear, and grow a larger set, and then I'll join the "wavey's" in their domain.

........so your out there on flat water not really trying..you may as well get back to work...

...did I forget to mention that I had to unscrew an aerial off the top of that mast, turns out that the previous owner lived in an area with very poor TV reception.......

Good snaps Al.

Johnny,
Buy a good quality rdm mast and your mast breakages in the surf will drop wayyyyyyyy downnnnn.
I rememnber when Ant Houston and Ken 'woolly' Woolford broke six mast each in one season going hard in the surf, then the skinnny Ezzy came out and i think only two have been bRoken between them in 10 years !!!!.
Dont use a fat (stm) mast in the surf unless it is a surf mast, preferably use rdm if you want strength.
Personally i have never found a mast stronger than the ezzy rdm, ( even though i dont use them).

Im keen for waves - Dont know if I could sail without something hanging off my arm though... Wheres that Hen?

Whats the thing atached to you arm, ask Al .. Three years ago no windsurfer had these po.f bags! on our arms , we just had stubbie holders bolted to our harnesses

I think these photos are from Saturday.

There has been lots of seaweed and debris in the water at Lagoon, everyone has to remove their share.

The tide can go out rapidly requiring quick direction changes...

RDM for waves I can understand, but I don't do waves... the biggest waves I've been in is Rosevears chop, they just wash you over and over and over, no dumping ;-)

1 bottom section exploded 1m below the boom cos it was 15 years old I think, the next one was 2nd hand - but *personally guaranteed* to be ok, but mid plane in maybe a 20knots gust, and I heard the bottom of the top section split - about 30cm split...now I really do have a good antenna mast.
Limped back to the bar before it ripped the sail... thank goodness.
Then I cried and built sandcastles...

Was great to get a sail in on Monday at Bell Bouy. Pearso pulled off a couple of nice forwards, and Al was on form with his big airs and stella wave riding skills. Bummed I didn't get out more over the Easter break but was lucky enough to get the time away that I did. The crew in the north is growing larger so it will be pretty unusual to get a sail in by yourself these days. Exciting times for development and pushing you to the limit of learning new skills. Especially for the guys "scared of waves" The weekend just gone was prime wave riding territory for beginners. Flattest I have ever seen Bell Bouy. Yet still fun.

The Felix, Pearso wave show will be great to watch when Felix is fit again.

Bring on the winter westerlies!!!
