A southerly forecast for this afternoon, so planning to go up and have a sail there with Steve. Probably leave around midday to get there by 2-3pm. Anyone else interested?

Has the situation changed there with regard to the rangers? I thought they had some silly rule about not sailing there.

I think rules are made to be broken,
or until the fine comes in!.

Looked to be howling at Swansea from the SE, but not much wind getting in to Moulting Lagoon unfortunately. I rigged the 7.0m on the 107 hoping the wind would increase, but it didn't. First run from the shore and I was planing and did about 27 knots reaching off the wind. Water was very flat in places, but over the far side wasn't totally flat (but still good and nothing to worry about chop-wise).

I thought we might have been missing the best of the wind, so headed up wind hoping to get up to the next bay, but it got very shallow (had to walk a few hundred metres across a really shallow section) and when I got to the deeper water (waist deep) it wasn't actually any windier, so headed back.

Meanwhile, Steve with his 7.8m sail on his 117 had been hooting back and forth in the flat stuff.

Learnt a fair bit about the place walking through the shallows. There is a section below the line of duck hunting hides that is deep enough for your fin, with absolutely no chop as its on the lee side of the really shallow water (10cm). This area might be OK if it was windy.

All in all, not so good in a SSE, but there really wasn't much wind. I think a howling SW or NW wind would be best.

Didn't see any rangers. There were quite a few black swans and I did disturb them up near the duck hides (they just flew off), but I don't think where Steve was sailing was disturbing any birds.
