to those who use the Mortimer bay access area on the eastern side of the bay, the council changed the lock a few weeks ago. I called up the Clarence city council and asked what the reason for the lock change was. The answer was that the local residents complained about access. I asked what the reason was for the complaint and no information was given.
I expressed disappointment that we had once again been denied access and requested our group be given access again. The person I spoke to suggested I email the council seeking attention to the GM about our concerns and requests for access. I sent an email over a week ago but haven't heard anything since. if anyone is keen to see this area continue to be accessible by the council providing keys then I'd suggest you contact CCC and ask some questions for reasons why we've been denied access after nearly a decade of responsible use of the area and no problems. mill call the council tomorrow to see if there's any progress. If anyone contacts them can you post the response here so we have an idea of their responses and the consistency of those responses.
Thanks all. Hope we can have a good outcome with this but I'd suggest we need to pressure the ccc to get that outcome.

The response I received:-

Asset Management REQ2022-058833
Marlon Binet Email: mbinet4889@gmail.com

Dear Mr Binet I refer to your recent request regarding access to the Mortimer Bay Coastal Reserve.

As council do not own the land and hold a non-exclusive lease with the Crown for maintenance of the track in this area, council are not legally authorised to provide or permit access to any other party. Access locks to the Mortimer Bay Coastal Reserve have recently been changed by council considering these circumstances. Council can provide individuals with refunds for key deposits paid. Please return your key and completed EFT Requisition Form to the council chambers for processing.

Individuals are welcome to contact the Crown to discuss any access requirements.

Yours sincerely Allison Coombe Manager Environment and Recreation
