I used to take my mast for granted, but thanks to Relic's photo from last week, I will not make that mistake again.

This has not been caught in the act of 'letting go', it is just another day on the water. 8 years old too, and virtually the only mast I have ever used in that time.

I used to take my mast for granted, but thanks to my experience last weekend at the Bakers Beach, I will not make that mistake again.

Sailed from Port Sorell down to Bakers to save some time on driving, and after an hour of sailing my 430 RDM mast, which I rarely use, snapped. It was quite a weird snap as the lengths of two mast pieces were exactly the same as they were before the snap, just the insert was stuck in the top instead of the bottom part of the mast, and the bottom part had a carbon fiber eruption on the top end.

Needles to say, I couldn't sail back upwind with the broken mast, so I had to paddle my board across the Port Sorell bay and drive back to Bakers to pick up the sail.

That is amazing that it didn't go pop. What sort of mast is it (make, size)?
