Finally we get a nice little wind front so I decide to dust off the gear and go for a blast across the the flat water near Sorell causeway where I have done for the last 20 years or so. The wind today was great and the new mitts I brought from Jay Sails are the best, they kept the hands warm with no aches up the arms for a couple of hours. When I finished my little environnmentaly friendly blast ,there to meet me was Parks and Wildlife not to ask how was your sail, but to tell me that I could not park down near the water, and they will put some nice big rocks there to stop entry to the beach,Instead they would like me and anyone else to rigup up on the highway and walk down to the water with my all my gear right next to all the traffic (great for safety). Way to go Tassie lock up the lot and stop people from having a little fun. GO THE GREENS
I know how you feel. It would be a pain in the ass. Hopfully some of the windsurf tas guys down south can submit a proposal. It's just like all the 4x4 tracks they are closing on the west coast...ANNOYING!!
hello Jason. yeah a shame , area controlled by DIPWE, not council, actually surprised you found a parks officer considering the lack of them!. sailed there today (through gate), if only they realised there is more rubbish dumped there now than before they put the gate up 10-15 years ago.!! Why didnt/dont they consider doing up the area, removing all trees that block it from the highway. Make a picnic/rest area with a great view. probably less chance of rubbish dump then and at least it can be used by public and thousands of tourists! There were times when we had 30 sailors on the water there.
Hi Damien, yes I remember the days before the gate when the water was full of windsurfers john and I should take the excavator over there and clean the place up and crush the gate.Today was my first chance to try the new glove/mitts they are fantastic, kept the hands warm all arvo. Cheers
Hi Buzzy, yes I was at the Sorell end but damien was talking about the gate near the Tasman golf club. I think that both ends need a little area for all to enjoy, I will make a few enquires at the Sorell council and see if anything can be done to clean up the area. Cheers
