How lame Russonly kidding. Thats why I just went and spent lots of money on big gear. I believe the big baron er I mean the red baron has just flown to Melbourne to pick up some big gear

What is regarded as big gear?
I guess it depends on how much you weigh?
I can get my 109L Supersport up and planing with my 6.6m Koyote in what seems to me to be not much over 10-12 knots wind. I know this is freeride gear not slalom.
What sort of wind strength are you considering "light winds"?
Anyway, I'll have many more sailable days with the the Supersport, so hope to join you.

Good question Easty. Those who sail on boards around 90 liters or smaller might think a 107/110 is big and it probably is. But generally light wind slalom like the guys in the PWA are using would be around 130-140 liters. Then you would put a sail between an 8.5-9.5 on that. Starts getting pretty expensive if you have to buy an extra boom and mast on top of the board and sail. I have just bought a 127 and an 8.6, sold all the formula gear. I wanted something to cruise around on in the lighter stuff when its not windy enough for the 107. Still should be able to do up to around 30 knots on this gear.

Out of interest Steve, what sort of wind strength would you use this set-up (and expect to be doing 30-odd knots)?

Actually you could probably put the big gear board range 120-140 liters. I see Jez did around 29 knots the other day on his 135 and 7.0. I think it was around 15 knots from memory. I did 27 knots last week on the 127 and 7.8 in around 12-14 knots.

Yep, as Steve said, just got a second-hand 9.0m Code Red and 490 mast to suit, so ready for some light wind cruising, just need a board!! Probably something around the 130-140L mark.

Blasting in 12-14 knots is great fun, so looking forward to getting out and exploring further afield We can do some races from Sandy Bay out around the Iron Pot and back!!

I'll be in that Dave I still have your old 180L Thomen.
Many years ago when Ken uuused to sail we got into touring, Sandy Bay around the Iron Pot and back, Opposum Bay down the east coast of Bruny, Tarana across Norfolk Bay to Murdunna
Great to explore but a real s... when you run out of wind....keeps the adrenaline pumping

Looking forward to our first team run

I have always enjoyed exploring. I think this is a fun aspect of our sport the we can all get into. Just remember you will not need the latest and greatest to be up the front of the pack. I hope more join us over time when they find nice price gear.

Seabreeze will be a good start in finding gear.

Ant I remember that Thomen board was ahead of its time when it came out. Such a classic board and I am pretty sure Dave won a couple of state championships on it.

That Thommen 305 was an awesome board, I used to use it with an 8.3 and it absolutely flew!!

Looking forward too, Russ.
I think I'll use the Longrider, maybe get a bigger rig (around 7.5?), love to do some cruisy planing exploration and swell surfing - maybe tow a tuna lure, maybe not!
Won't be racing to the Iron Pot and back with the big slalom boards, just cruisin' for fun.
