Come along to the Learn to Windsurf/Fun Day, Lagoon Bay, Low Head on the 20th November 
If you are keen to give windsurfing a crack or have a friend that's keen, come along and meet some of the local sailors who will be there to help you get started on the windsurfers provided.
All you need to bring along is a wetsuit, wetsuit boots and a life jacket
Al Cook (Al Planet) is organising this event and will be stoked with anyone that can help on the day.
Al will have the BBQ running with a few free snags and soft drinks, courtesy of Windsurfing Tasmania.
This day is all about fun and that's what's windsurfing is all about.

Ant, are you coming along?
I was hoping to make it and take up some to the start boards we have down south but unable to do so.
If anyone from the south is going up it would be great if you could take up a couple of boards, if you are contact me and I'll organise the boards.
Al is going to do a bit of a ring around cos he'll need plenty of helpers.
He wants to make it a pretty low key event but it should be a bit of fun
I have done some research on the 'net about cooking sausages and I think I can manage that part.
I have two Rios and a 122 l Kode for the demo and I will try to get hold of the Start that is at Port D yacht club. Does anyone have a contact for them?
All welcome, I also have two epoxy raceboards for those that want to revisit old school longboard sailing. One is an AHD and the other is a Mistral.

I am planning on staying at the low head caravan park on the Saturday night and hopefully getting a sail in on Sat. as well up there. I will be available to help all day on Sunday and my son has got a few interested venturers coming up for a go. What time are things starting on Sunday so that we can let people know?

Looks like some good wind this weekend, would be a great time to come up and have a go at sailing the low head area (hint Iceman)
Don't forget guys Al can do with as much help as he can get, even if you go down there for a couple of hours to help a bit and get some sailing in as well.
Nothing like beginers watching guys blasting to get them pumped
And don't forget to pass the word around it's a great chance to get new people into windsurfing

It should be a good day as the forecast is promising a bit of everything....standard Tasmanian weather. It might be 10 knots early and build through the afternoon right through to 5 metre weather......thats only a guess but at this time of year with the sun out we should get a seabreeze at least.
Don't worry Paul, I've had the ute packed for a couple of days. As long as the forecast is anywhere near OK I'll be there.
I'm going to try to get there about 10.00 and I think a couple of others are going to be there early as well if anyone else wants to join in the fun.
Looks like the forecast for is shaping up with a building westerly, might still get a late wavesail in after the learn to windsurf session out the front at east beach or bell buoy. I will be there about 10am. Any speedseekers thinking about coming up there are a couple of Nm runs in that part of the river that need to be tested. With the tide low at around midday there is always some flat water on the kelso side of the river. Just have to get through the lumpy stuff in the middle
I'll be there with bells on. Rain, hail or shine. I think furs is coming and also have another mate coming down. Bring it on!!!!!!!.
Great video Ben and looks like a nice spot. Hope it all goes well for the learner/fun day this Saturday - forecast should bring some good conditions.
I think the learners day was a great success with quite a few first time sailors having a go as well as some that had done it before. Al was at the spot early setting up gear and my kids were keen to get on the water soon after. The wind was light but building and looking at the dark clouds we knew something was about to happen and it did. About midday a front came through with 30+ gusts and rain. The kids and wife packed up but not long after it cleared up and the wind stayed around. Quite a few others showed up wanting a go and Al was busy teaching as well as Rod, Ben and myself. The wind just got stronger as the afternoon went on and we were all itching to get out for a blast. A few of the other local sailors showed up and put on a show for the newbies. As the tide came in Jeff was doing some freestyle action as the rest of us were trying to survive in the chop and 35knt gusts. A few minor injuries were had as well as a broken mast and boom. There is definitelysome interest up here for new sailors which is a great thing. I only have a few photo's of the kids , not sure if any others were taken.

Try windsurfing day kicked off a little earlier than advertised and I was setting up the two Rios and a Kode 122 at around 930 AM in the hope of avoiding the frontal conditions forecast for later in the day. At around 10-1030 when the first learners “hit” the water (Muzza, Locky Kayla and Adam I think) there was beautiful sunshine and around 5 knots of wind.
By 1130 the breeze was around 10 to 12 knots and John turned up with his shiny new Rio and went windsurfing for the first time in probably 20 years with out any problems at all.
Around 1230 conditions started to get a little busier with a few short boards out and more learners arriving. Dave K arrived with five aspiring windsurfers and one very original Windsurfer OD, Ben(2) and Locky(2) arrived also Brooksy and Darren turned up with a Bombora Capricorn.
The rest of the afternoon consisted of some pretty good shortboard sailing condition with 4.5 5.0 and 5.5s being a popular sizes. A few rain squalls and some patches of wind over 30 knots provided some good action and a few crashes too. Some of the beginners persisted in the tougher conditions which was very impressive.
A big thanks to everyone who turned up and made the day so full of action some are Lagoon regulars and some made the trip from further away. Paul Ben, Iceman, Jeff, Wayne, Parky, Flood, Chris, Richard, Nick, Gillian and a few others I am sure I have forgotten.
Apologies for any errors with names activities and facts…..the whole day was pretty busy for me and seems like a bit of a blur though that may just be the “old timers disease” kicking in.
All in all, well over 20 windsurfers and aspiring windsurfers on the water which is a great result.
