Plenty of good spots, but what type of sailing - freeride, waves, slalom, speed?

Like Dave says plenty of spots

Dorans road, Lauderdale, is probably the most popular.

we also have some wavesailing beaches locally. As tassie is small, a bit of a drive can get you to some world class locations, i.e Marrawah

definatly wave sailing if possible, but I would take anything. Its not like we get classic wave days here in the city in perth. I could swing it to do a few months or 6 work from just west of hobart If I ask nicely and make it no inconvieniece for anyone here. I am trying to find out whether I could get to any sailing spots on a normal work day, with say, half hour-hour drive. And if so, where would I want to be based if I can still make it to work within say half hour. Or whether I am better of staying in Perth over summer. Although I reckon everything else to do like walking and biking and scenary will be miles better in Tas.

Also, from all I can find out, the waves generally tend to be on the west coast, which is really just weekend trips then for normal mon-fri workers, or is this wrong ?. Over summer, how regular would you expect to sail, or is is just too variable to guess ?

Plenty of spots here, but these are all mostly North West coast wave spots.

Hello Again.
Lauderdale area.
In summer we sail 4-5 days a week. not to say that it is always perfect conds but flatwater freestyle and freeriding/blasting etc. can still be done on most days. Made up of coastal seabreezes and frontal wind that caters for all sailors likes.
I think most people would agree that living around lauderdale area would be the best for location. One of the best flat water bumbp and jump locations 2 minutes away and surf beaches only 5-10 minutes. Travel to hobart in 20 minutes.
In summer The south east areas (i.e Lauderdale, and local beaches ) often get Easterly seabreezes that do not blow anywhere else.

If you want to get a quick sail after work and still only be 10 minutes form home then join the already many sailors who live in the area.
Do you want me to look for a rental, better start now, hard to get in summer!
Then again Perth is still good.

Thanks for your advice. If you had like a hour radius of Hobart, where would you head to. Do many people sail on the east coast, or is it mainly in stormy bay area ?

Within an hour we sometimes go to Marion bay (about 45 minutes)

On the Southarm penisular there are so many choices that it's rare that we drive the 1/2 hour to somewhere like carlton beach.

Wave and winf can usually be found around here somewhere.
