The fact of the matter regardless is; longer ones will help you save your arms and reduce fatigue. Simply you can hook in sub planing. Adjust your stance and boom grip and arm articulation to account for the difference. It feels weird to begin with. Then you will reap the rewards when, often effortless sailing happens!
The purists say it's lazy sailing. For me comfort =enjoyment. I'm not on the PWA. I'm not trying to set speed records.
Just having some fun without suffering. You will suffer less with longer lines.
For size; grip boom, measure from elbow to boom grip=your harness line length.
