Hi.

We are heading down to Kayena at around Christmas time to stay a few weeks with my Wife's Dad. Keen to get in some sailing while I am down there.

We visit pretty regularly and I am debating whether to freight down some older gear I am considering selling. He has a heap of sheds and I already have a bike down there, so could store it okay. Problem is we go in Winter a fair bit too and I am a soft Queenslander and could not deal with the winter water temps. So I am wondering if there might be somewhere that hires gear, as that might be a better option?

I did a search and saw the beginners gear, but no mention of other options that I could see.

I am intermediate standard, 100kg and would be looking for a Freeride around 150l ish. Mostly sail an 8M or 9m here in Brisbane, but from what I have seen, I would be looking at smaller sails.

As a guide the gear I am thinking of sending is a 155 Starboard GO from around 2006 and 7.5 and 6.0, so similar would be great.

Thanks for any info.

Hi Ballast, there is no formal hire place in the north.

There is a small possibility you could do a deal with one of the locals. You could always leave the board, mast and boom here and bring a few sails as you need them.

If you found a kit down here on seabreeze or windsurf tas buy/sell/chat on facebook, you could have someone hold on to it until you come.

A lot of the sailing happens on the N Tamar at Lagoon Beach mainly. When you are around come up to Lagoon Bay and say g'day to the locals. Once they can work out the Queensland accent they'll be reasonably friendly.

Thanks for the reply Clarence.
I have been checking out gumtree down there, but haven't seen any bargains yet.
Will keep looking at options.
Spoke to a few sailers at Rosevears and Bell Buoy? Last visit arounx April I think.
Had a look at the Lagoon but no one was there on the day.
Looking forward to a sail down there. Wind is nuts compared to here.
Cheers, Brad.

I have gotten together a reasonable rig, thanks very much to a very helpful crew around the Launceston area.

I am still looking for a cheap boom that will go out to a minimum 2.44. I have one here that I can bring down, but just want to save the hassle.

Would prefer around Launie somewhere if possible.

Cheers, Brad.
