There was a solid but gusty 20 to 25 kt westerly at East on Sunday. With so much southerly around the swell was almost non existent but still a fun couple of hours on the water.

Al that looks like soooo much fun. Were you by yourself out there? I'm guessing someone else took the photos, I tried to get the missus to take some photos one day but the best I can say is that it didn't go down well. She doesn't like the wind. Don't know what's wrong with her.

I was lucky that Sam Flood came to the beach with a awesome new camera lens attached to a nice Canon camera and took a heap of photos. It was a pity that the swell wasn't a little bigger as the wind direction was straight cross shore.

East is definitely best at low to mid tide for those peaky ramps, at more than half tide it gets a little deep and the wind is more fluky nearer to the dune.

This Saturday is looking OK for a small swell and around 20 kts of breeze. The tide will be in most of the afternoon so its probably better at Lagoon Bay for blasting and Bell Buoy Beach or Greens beach for some small ramps.

I am trying to train my kids up to be keen photographers but every time I give them the camera I just get lots of photos of seagulls, starfish and sandcastles and a few photos of me crashing.

Hey Al, any chance you could pin point the locations you talked about above on Google maps? I am bitterly disappointed I didn't know about east beach. I spent my Sunday annoyed with the wind direction here. If I knew about this I would have been there.

I should be able to grab the East Beach image off google maps but I am not sure how. If you do a search on Google Maps East Beach, Low Head, Tasmania you will get the image.

Its interesting how on some of these southerly patterns Gape Grimm will be SW or SSW, Devonport will be SW but Low Head will be W or sometimes WNW with an extra 5-10 kts. Last Sunday was 10 to 20kts close to the beach and a solid 25 on the outside.

Sometimes you have to wait till early afternoon for it to even out and sometimes Bell Buoy beach is a more even breeze (Bell Buoy is only 10 minutes away).

It would be great to see you on the water.
