My trusty old Subi, probably now in Subi heaven but I still have that board bag!

Good on ya Kazza for digging up your pics?? I wonder whether Kanaha & Spreks is still as great as it was? It had such a friendly cruising vibe. The locals were so welcoming.
Those Subis are legendary. Before Marion Bay access to the beach was closed a line of them were often parked on the front beach having easily traversed the dunes or the beach. It was not unusual to see a dozen windsurfers ot at Boneyards as well as getting into some other sandy tracks around the state.
The bloke in the "guess who" sporting the "Surfer Mullett" is a familiar face but I can't figure out who it is. So is the girl.
The vented fins pictured were a great innovation. They did stop spin out. I still have mine bought on Maui in '88.
Why aren't they used any more? I've used it in a modern board. It still works!
Who else has got some "Old Gold" out there. Judging by the number of hits this thread is getting. Everyone ot there is

Yes I used to take that Subi around the spit at Marion.
The guess who are/were Jaye & Ken Shaw. Ken is no longer with us, he's up in windsurf heaven and Jaye lives in Orford.
In that photo those were Naish wave boards we hired on Maui. Took our own rigs though, we each got a 4.6 Sailworks Revo for the trip from The Baron (Andrew Barrenger), we were team Sailworks back then.

2001 Coronation Beach WA

Mast top camera setup using a disposable waterproof camera and fishing line to a loop around my finger.... didn't think about what could have happened with a big crash and 100kg line around my finger!

Can't believe that strapper ended up in kerbside rubbish!

Wow thats so cool for 18 years ago. GoPro suck it up.....

Pull-pro does't quite have the same appeal as a trade mark????The potential for loss of digits would have made it unviable commercially!
That beats my attempt to mount a housed Video 8 camera to the top of the mast. Like trying to sail with a concrete block strapped to the mast. There was not even a remote chance of capturing a moment like that.
Very impressive. More gold please dig 'em up I know you have them.

Yes that's correct Relic. I think it was made of ABS which was lighter than PE.
Enjoyed sailing it until I broke the fin out of it.

It was a great board, It had an EPS core I think so it was pretty light but not durable. Not that anything lasted very long out in the surf (masts snapped like carrots) .
You don't look as blonde as I remember!

West Inlet (speed sailing) 81.

Amazing how quick the gear developed back then.
Big old floppy rag sails as with Al in 81 to modern ( ish) wave sails from about 1988 on.

Yellow board...Bombora "Dromedary" What a legend of design innovation!
Features;
Polyethylene; impervious to Tioxide heavy metal and Pulp Mill effluent
Nice and heavy so it wouldn't blow away on the beach.
Massive bump running down the centre line to massage the arch of your back foot.
Expanding rubber plug "Self Ejecting" mast foot designed to separate from board in mid air for safety....there was a fitting in the nose for the optional bungy safety line to attach to the rig.
Super smooth deck to avoid grazes and any sort of grip....not a problem; stay in the footstraps.
Board specifically designed not to gybe without jumping on the tail with all your weight.
Super skinny nose for easy "Submarining"
Included was; "Kanga Fin" to complete the Aussie theme.
The "Bewildered" body language of the onlookers says it all. Was Mark Paul playing a gag on us?
Followed up with another "Banger Design" The "Trifin" Pictured above.

You are being kind Relic - I was never cursed with a dromadary, but suffered a tri-fin for several weeks (what a pig), but immediately 'up'graded to a new toy. Marginal improvement but lethal when overpowered. That kept me on the water for several months, and then got ditched for a Proto - a truly kick arse board that lasted for several years. I wonder if commercial necessity - the pop-out - might have got the better of Mark Paul's design judgement.

The Moth was previously owned by Ricketts, or some one in that vintage. It was a light kids board ,and the owner had put foot strap plugs in it ,and was tried out as a wave board. It was a fair bit lighter than the Bombora tri fins getting about at the time. Until they invented the Bombora protos.
Once i could plane ,the foot straps were screwed on and the rest is history.
Should be a Pro by now , ha ha.
Mind you im still hooked.

Note - i think the legs have got skinnier.
The booties were for ,any sea creature that felt sharp or weird under foot.
And any sea creature still blows me out.
Slimey, slippery , weird, creatures they are.
Yippee go sail .

Windsurfing in NSW on my Uncles HiFly was no wind so when i uphauled i fell in and mast smashed me into the head and tore my ear apart Lucky enough my Uncle let me take his set up home on the spirit as i couldnt afford a one
