I love windsurfing events, and want to have the best 2011 possible. I think the format of the fun day events works with the BBQ. I think for most of us need to lock in the event dates so that we can all organise the available times early and get the gear ready.
I am keen to hold fun wave, slalom, formula and speed events (under the Windsurfing Tasmania format) I would also think most of you want to these types of events.
The format is all about participation, fun and meeting all the crew from all over the state. So I am opening this up to everyone to make comment and get the planning started during the dead of winter so that spring and summer 2010 is the best ever windsurfing season. It’s so easy to organise these events so let’s get moving and get the party started. Remember to join windsurfing Tasmania for next season as well. Cheers Russ
well march long weekend 2011 (Stanley) we should defiantly have as much participation as possible, its all ways great.can have great waves, plenty of flat water and bump and jump plus some great formula in the bay.
Russell we do have a Windsurfing Tas commitee with a president, and these events are going to be organised as a club. We will be having a commitee meeting very soon so all of us can get together and have our say and get the events organised. Clyde is trying to get it all together in a professional way, with professional instructors/safety and something where everyone will be able to give it a go. At the moment he's getting all his paper work together and having talks with various people to get ideas and then he's going to hit us all with it at the meeting. He does a lot of thinking about it all behind the scenes and is coming up with brilliant ideas to get the sport growing. So be patient or do you want to start your own club?
Everyones got some great ideas and that's just what we all want. I think it's great to get the different disciplines together with some fun days, let's face it, imagine the Lauderdale bogans[}:)], speed pussies, jump and pumpers, hairstylers, new wave wankers, sandy bay latte drinkers, hopeless hawleys, marrawah dope smokers all cranking it together with a barbie and some tinnies at the end of the day. sounds like fun to me

So I'll be sending out emails soon to committee members for the exciting big meeting as to where and when and we can all get it happening....stay tuned!!!
Great to be thinking about upcoming events. We will need to get the calendar finalised over the next couple of months, so be good to be thinking of this now. The events that are already scheduled (dates to be confirmed) are as follows:
• Formula/Slalom State Titles Round 1 (Formula) November Hobart • Formula/slalom State Titles Round 2 (Slalom/GPS) January Hawley • Formula/Slalom State Titles Round 3 (Formula) February Port Dalrymple • Formula/Slalom State Titles Round 4 (Slalom/GPS) March Stanley • Wave Sailing State Titles TBA • Dash for Cash/Sandy Bay Regatta January Hobart
We also have "The Showdown" course racing event in Oct on the Derwent which is hosted by the RYC.
Events can be endorsed by Windsurfing Tasmania (WT) or managed outside WT (like the Dash-for-Cash, which is run be the Regatta Association). In the past it has mainly been state title events that are run under the WT banner as this is necessary for them to be considered "state titles" (ie recognised by the state association), however, there is no need for events to have WT involvement.
The planned meeting sounds like the way to go to discuss all of this, including what's involved to ensure organisers are covered against potential liability (whether WT endorsed or not), but ideas on event format would be great to develop online in forums such as this one.
Don't forget we also have the GPS Teams Challenge which is year around. A lot of the focus on this site now is on people achieving their own Personal Best (PB) times. The longer one is involved in this the harder it is to achieve a PB and the more sweet it is when you do!! This comp also allows local Tassie sailors to compete against the worlds best (there are a huge number of professional sailors from around the world posting sessions on this Australian site now) and beat them too ...!!
We have absolutely fantastic conditions for sailing in Tassie (Marrawah and Henty for wavesailing and speed sailing stand out in particular, but there are so many other great spots, including Doran's and Low Head, both of which are classic locations in a Westerly).
We'll have to get Buzzy Smiff to get off his horse and start organising the wave comp at marrawah, does anyone know where the trophy's are, should be mens and womens. Probably hold it early January.

Too BUSY!
I've got the mens.
Oh! and I think I won the Womens aswell, the judges got confused because of my hair back then.
There is a womens trophy, it is somewhere in victoria?. Anthony and I drove round the trophy shops then gave it to a victorian!!! I am sure we can track it down. Anthony will remember the girl names.
Jemma from Vic won the last West Coast Classic back quite a few years ago, is that right Kazza? I will contact Simone Hansom, I'm sure he could track the trophy down through SHQ. Maybe Simone, if he still considers himself a Tasmanian might even make a comment on this forum. On the other matter buzzy smiff has been a cross dresser for many years
Kalia Smythe is a cross dresser but needs a makeover. Jemma is a friend of B's and .... can't remember the other, all three girls are pretty guttzy and i still remember them hitting some big waves on their first encounter with wavesailing at Marrawah
