www.dropbox.com

About 10 of us in the North are already onto Dropbox. Its FREE to sign up and very easy to use. Creates a folder on your computer where you can simply chuck photos and they automatically become available for everyone who is part of that group.

Works very well and makes sharing large amounts of pictures very easy.

If anyone signs up in the North let me know here and I can share our "windsurfing" folder with you.

Im certainly not promoting we dont post on the forum, this is very important for the life of our sport, but posting hundreds of pictures on the forum can be time consuming - not of interest to everyone. In dropbox it takes about 6 seconds and whoever wants a particular photo can copy it.

Im loving it, and I know a few others up here are fans also... very good thing and free

Disclaimer: Re size high res pictures before adding so you dont blow your bandwidth

Sounds like a great idea Ben, I'm back to semi retirement again so will spend more time on the water this year and more time on the camera.
Good to post a few on this forum but like you said too many can be boring. I get heaps of pics that aren't top shots but good for guys to see how they're sailing.
How do we go about setting up a dropbox?
Should we set one up in the south or are you suggesting we use one statewide?

Due to the size limit you get on a free account I think its best to have a dropbox for each group of people that sail together. A big benifit is as you said "people seeing how they sail". Can really pick out technique issues.

You just go to the dropbox website, download and install it on your computer - create a folder in it called something like "Houstons top pix" - then you can share that folder with anyone you wish... using theyre email address via dropbox website.

Anyone you share your folder with that installs dropbox will see everything you put in there and can also add content.

Just be careful to re size pictures as it automatically downloads content...
