Took the modified mountain boards out for a run over the weekend and they worked really well except in really soft sand. Tried them on gravel, grass, beach and bitumen with 5m sails and they are heaps of fun. Dont need much wind to get them going 5-10 is fine anything more and it gets a bit scary. Yes they will coming to Stanley this weekend...

Nice one Paul and Ben. I agree 10-15knots is ideal. Had mine out in 25 and was good but was a little too fast, as i didn't have the trucks up tight enough. So when i hit 30knots speed some speed wobbles were coming into play haha. This is from yesterday morning in 5-10knots.

what's the go?... do i just buy a mountain board, take the footstraps off, drill a hole in the front and drop my deck plate into it or is it more complex than that? I think it might be time for me to get started

It is pretty simple and that probabdly would work, however through experience and testing it has become evident that foot straps are beneficial as Izaak has said and having a metal plate out the front between the truck and the board (as paul designed and made for ours) does work very well..... stronger too.

i reckon a dirtsurfer would be good with a sail on it, two wheels cant go wrong...and could really bank that fecker into the turns, bringing up 3 normal sandsailers to Stanley...one proven and two protos to try out.

I found some trucks and have an idea about a board I'm going to build but not sure where to get some cheapest wheels. Any suggestions guys?

I built one using wheels from a couple of Trolleys from SuperCheap autos. The trolleys were ~ $25.00 each. They are the same ones as what you see at K&D and Bunnings, etc. Actually, the SuperCheap at Cambridge had the wheels for sale separately I think. I used the axles off the trolley as well. Didn't cut them down either - so If I need a trolley I can always put the wheels back on the trolleys !

I used standard skate trucks which I rejuvinated with some new rubbers. You want the stiffest rubbers you can get to avoid the speed wobbles.

Here is a short vid of tooling around the Derwent Entertainment Centre car park. Needless to say, you can't be too careful with these things. A stack at even slow speed can cause of bit of carnage. I went a bit wide with one of my gybes and hit the kerb. Was lucky to get away losing a bit of bark. Definitely recommend a test run on the beach in light (5 to 10 knots) wind and a helmet.
