We are looking at doing at the 15th annual Sandy Bay Regatta windsurfing dash for cash on Australia Day 26th Jan. We have had a lot of interest for this event and are hoping for some good numbers this year. The Dash for Cash is a windsurfing race that anyone can enter as long as they have an approved buoyancy vest and their own windsurfer. The start is at the beach in front of Prossors restaurant Sandy Bay where you sail across the river to a buoy on the other side and back to where you started. There is cash for the first 4 place getters and usually a few lucky door prizes. Entry is $10 on the day and there is a briefing at 2pm. The start of the race will be between 2.30 and 3pm depending on the wind. This year for the first time if there is enough wind we will have some slalom racing after the Dash for Cash. This should provide some great entertainment for the crowd. I have also organised a rescue boat this year, however if the conditions are too windy and rough the boat wont available. I would also suggest that people don't sail if they don't think the conditions are suitable for their ability. Also it is good idea to get there a bit earlier so this gives people time to rig up their gear and get themselves organised. If there are any questions please do hesitate to phone me on 0418641881.

Kaleb it would be great if you could bring those bouys that we had for the slalom at Mortimer. If not let me know and we will sort something else out.

will the event still run if the pussies in the support boat start crying about the conditions getting too good, or is this a barn door event?

The event always runs, just that there might not be a patrol boat if too windy, so people should consider whether to go out or not depending on their level of skill. If it's light there'll be Formula boards - what's your problem

gday Nick, hopefully there is some wind this year, but generally the ones i can remember are 'barn door' events. still good fun to watch if you dont have the gear.

Hey Nick show some respect. The pussy in the boat is a good friend of mine who has kindly given up his afternoon to help up out. The boat
isn't that big and that's why he is not too keen to go out if it gets too rough. I am sure he has better things to do on a public holiday, like being with his kids.

I'm looking forward to it, and unless it's blowing strong I'll probably sail my longboard, (haven't sailed for a year) to make sure I get back to shore if the wind drops and before the fast dudes drink all the beer and eat the pies!
Mind you, year before last, I, on my longboard, pipped Houston (slalmon gear - but oldish) (the gear, not him) (well, both) at the finish, first finisher behind the go fast doorplanks!
But it's all about a fun run across the river and back, so take a board you know will float you back if the wind drops.
And there is sure to be some excitement about the challenge to the perpetual Dave / Steve 1 and 2 finish, so many fast dudes sailing now it could be an exciting finish.
Get there early to get a park!!!

Some interesting names for Formula boards over the years. I remember Mike, Pete & I started calling them doorboards back in the early days, mum turned that into dorkboards. Now we get barn doors, door planks any other new names....? I call the old windsurfers logs.

Ok guys, get your boards ready because the dash is definately still on. Sounds like there was a misunderstanding and the Regatta dudes thought that a lot of us were going to NSW for the national Bic Techno championships. They are going to remove that from their website.
Auswind/Flying Objects have donated a brand new Nitro 32cm tuttle box fin and a set of 30in harness lines worth around $200 (total value) that we will draw out of the hat. You will need to stick around for the prize giving and hope your name gets drawn out.

Thanks Steve.
I know Richard, and have just sent him an e-mail saying that the popularity of windsurfing has increased dramatically over the last year, and that the committee should increase the amount of beer and pies available for after the event.
Especially if Morgan comes and eats all our pies while we are out on the water!

Well done Russ and Easty. I wonder if there are enough pies that we should have our first dash for cash pie eating contest. The winner could get a free pie or something
I would have to put my money on Wil Short, last year he ate about 6 or 7 pies

I'm in with a chance then.

I've got a new rig and with everyone else eating those pies, I might not come last again
