Time to dust off your old boards the annual Australia Day Sandy Bay Regatta Association Dash for Cash is back on. Any types of windsurfers welcome new or old. Briefing outside Prossers restaurant Sandy Bay beach at 1.30pm. Start time is 2.30pm but if no wind the latest start will be 3pm. $10 entry and you need an approved buoyancy vest. There is normally no support or rescue boat so use common sense if its windy. There will be cash prizes from 1st-5th place, also pies and beers after the race. This event is supported by the Sandy Bay Regatta Association.

Thanks Easty. At least there will be some wind. The Sandy Bay Regatta Association have agreed to putting in $400 which is fantastic. If we get 15 entries that will be $550 up for grabs. $50 of that money will go into a lucky door prize. You need to be at the presentation and have entered the race to be eligible for that.

Hi Izaak, I reckon it will be quite light, maybe 10-12 knots. Direction may be quite ESE, which could mean we are sailing from Sandy Bay toward Bellerive (Muzza's mark, for those who remember)!! If it gets a little stronger, maybe 12-15, then it will be pretty good for slalom with larger sails. Hopefully we'll get a good turn-out. Race will be happening regardless of the wind. If it puffs in a llittle bit stronger than is forecast, could be great fun and a full-on DASH-FOR-CASH!!!

Wish I could be there, sounds like it might be a good day for long boards.
Have fun everyone, and I'll do the Aussie Day thing and have a few crappy PNG beers while listening to Cold Chisel, and throw another yam on the bbq.

Yeah mate, blowin' at least 7 knots in the gusts when I went to the beach today, and that was a squall to announce today's monsoonal downpour. Which lasts 6 hours.

Just got home from a 5km dog walk straight after the Dash. Awesome event with about an 8-10 S/SE Sea breeze. Very light wind but lucky to get any because there was no wind until about 30 mins before the start. The formula boards dominated but everyone on non formula gear did so well to finish in that light breeze. Well done Dave who won the event yet again. It was a fairly close race with Will, Brendon and Dave all neck and neck to the mark. Brendon got around first with Dave Hot on his heals and Will close behind. Dave over took Bruno with about 1km or less to go.
First 5 placings Dave, Bruno, Will, Bear and Fitzy all on formula gear.
Big thanks again to the Sandy Bay Regatta Association for the $400 prize money and heaps of pies and beers afterwards. Also we had 17 entries which is 2 more than last year in a crappy forecast which is brilliant. Well done everyone

Not to mention Kazza was in the lead pack until the last sprint home.
I finished and not even last, but I used a sup board with a 7.5 sail.

I was leading a pack until 100 m from the eastern shorebouy when behind me got a gust and planed past me to the bouy, I managed to catch Jez up again as he dogged back to the western shore, and nearly got another.

Very light, Bear who finished in the money was behind me 1/2 way across to the eastern shore, then he got a gust on the door board and that was the last I saw of him.
