Epic swell off Coles beach at Devonport today. One of my mates was taking photos. Some of the waves out the back were 1m plus over mast high!! Was a little crazy for me, as i don't wave sail much. This made it hard when i attempted one forward loop (failed) but then landed a backloop, a few runs later in 30+ knots. Unfortunly the gopro stopped recording as i went over the front very hard, just after i sailed away, causing the sd card to disconnect corrupting that video. Anyway i was worried that i might lose the gopro as i had it on the mast for the backloop and it came off the mast so it was swaying around on the safety leash. So i put it on the boom for one last go..... Got to love the facial expressions..haha (video below)

Not used to these silly wave sails, they never ever lock in, never stable and never have a good amount of power in the sail. Makes sence seeing as im a slalom rider.But for once the wave sail felt good

Well done Izaak, always tricky sailing Coles beach. I used to sail there a bit in the late 80's. Good to see you having a go at some loops..its a great feeling when you can land and sail away

Going to try a push loop next time Hopfully thursday..

I'm keen for a sail at Bakers sometime, I hear it's a good place to try forward loops and after watching Iballa forwarding I'm keen to give it a real go and get past the getting flung over the handlebar stage.
Just watched your video Izaak, I could see the wave coming up in your facial expression, you prepared for it face first it looked funny

Haha yea the vid was my second run out. Once I got out there I didn't realize how big the waves were. Plus the wespac chopper was hovering around looking for a missing fisherman.

It would be great to have more tasmanians doing rotations of some type. Most people in Tassie doing forward/back and push loops regularly, have been from the mainland. A few tassie fellas in the past used to do them, the Dashing Dave Moorehead one of them. It would be great to see a heap of us out in the waves going for it like we used to a few years back when Hanson and Potty were here. Felix living in Launnie is the latest mainlander with excellent jumping skills to hit the state, so hopefully he'll help motivate and push a few people along.
Kazza, you have no excuses! Except jumping in Hobart is crap!

I do have an excuse, I'm 47 and break easily. Actually I think it's more scarey flying down wind on a speed board at 100 miles an hour than trying a loop.

I was going to wait till Houston has nailed his first rotation before I start putting my aged knees in danger. Its a crappy excuse and I am sure I will think of a better one when he has worked it out.

I'm keen on rotations, just around a different axis! Hoping to up my jibe success rate to better than roulette odds before summer hits!

Had another little go yesterday at Coles Beach. Was bearly enough to get going. Anyway nice sail after school and the good thing is it only 500m away. As you can see by the pics i was struggling to stay upright at times, due to no wind in the air!!

And a little bit of "how not to forward loop" just to inspire the confidence!!!

It makes me think twice, though I have not learned anything new for quite a few years so it would be nice to bust out a new move but not at the cost of an injury. ( I can't imagine myself being as positive as Justyna.) But the risk of not having a shot is becoming a complete Nana on the water. (now where did I leave my knitting?)

There are very easy /soft/ slow ways to learn forwards. Everyone thinks you need to hit a wave and get height. you can learn on flat water with no waves and no exotic location. i.e Dorans road down south is ideal.
One example is :YOU WILL NOT HURT YOURSELF if you practice the dead downwind, jump and land on back ( on lea of sail). Keep doing this and get more aggresive with speed and more technique / eventually doing a full rotation on the nose of the board.
You will do more damage going off a big wave and freaking out!or downhauling a sail.
ps Al, before learning i spent a week at the nursing home with my Nan in and extreme KNIT OFF! and ended up with knitters wrist.

You have even back looped ya old slalom gear. The stype was a good all round board.
