I have spoken to a few of the guys up north about doing a coast run of 20 to 30km, depending on who is keen and what the wind is doing. It could either be Port Sorrell/Narawantapu heading east (to Bakers Beach- Greens Beach- Low Head, which is 25 odd km) or from Low Head heading east (Bellbouy - Beechford - Lulworth, which is closer to 30km). Both options are about 60% along beaches, with 2 or 3 fairly evenly spaced pull-out points. In a typical NW wind they would be a reach most of the way apart from laying the few headlands or rocky points.

I will bring my drybag with mobile phone, flares etc. We would need to organise a car shuttle or someone to follow. I will take my longboard (F2 Lightning), but would envisage a floaty slalom board would do.

I will only go if wind is 12 knots plus and generally onshore to cross on shore. If this weekend doesn't work, then another weekend soon would be an option.

I will check the wind forecast closer to the weekend. I have done a few shorter solo ocean runs in recent weeks along the N coast which have all worked well and been very rewarding.

I'm the same! But very keen!! A few of us have done Devonport to port sorell a few times. I'm looking at Coles beach to port sorell run soon :)

The weekend after Stanley would be good. Either way, we can keep an eye on the wind and see what suits everyone. I might still head out this weekend for a shorter run (say Lagoon Beach tp Beechford) if wind is good.

This weekend is looking good. Port Sorell to Greens Beach, OR Low Head to Beechford. I'm keen to sail or I can do the car shuttle. Saturday and Sunday both look good. I did Bellbouy to Low Head a few weeks back in very light winds, ideal terrain for coast runs.

I sailed from Port Sorrell (Baker's Point campground) to Low Head then Kelso on Saturday afternoon. 25 plus knots of wind and some interesting sea conditions. In spite of the the large seas I was able to keep less than 500m from shore for the majority of the time without any problems.

With a solid NW wind like Saturday's, it means 30 odd km of bear away reaches, and a long board is definitely not a pre-requisite in these conditions. In that 30 km I had to put in about 6 gybes- to stay close to shore more than anything.

I'll post next time I'm planning a repeat or similar.

Sounds like ballsey stuff clarence, look up (sharks low head) on u tube. You need buddies to sail with. Always hard to know what the conditions are going to do out at sea or round the corner,big board, small board, sinker. Like, back ln the old days, with two blokes and hot chick circumnavigating tas, alby mangells style 1984 great video that, lol, Anyway, up north has some great sailling,tassie allround,"out there." ....frothin like a nun in a pizza shop. The stories I hear.

Thanks for the feedback. Love your style appleman- reminds me of the posts of "Milsy" from NSW. I've never seen a nun in a pizza shop. That video on the round Tas windsurf was on channel 10 a few weeks back, late at night. They used F2s (most likely Lightnings, but could have been Stratos) as well on that trip- I recall it was more like 1986-87 than 84.

The "one day" to join me could be this Saturday. Don't be shy if you don't own a centreboard.

Saturday afternoon is looking like a possibility for a coast run, long or short, if anyone is keen. Looks like NW at 10 to 20 knots at this stage.

Set your board free, with 20 kilometres of port tack happiness.

I will see how forecast pans out closer to then and make a decision.

They were F2 Lightnings, Jack VanEk still has the very one that Rick Burnup used on the trip. The other two sailors were Elise and Golly I can't remember their surnames.

I'm planning a coast run this Saturday morning is anyone is keen. Starting at East Beach. I will check forecast closer to then. On Sunday I may also/instead do a run from Beauty Point southwards along the Tamar as a bit of an experiment- see how far I can go in a few hours.
