Tuna that is. Such a boring wind prognosis has me thinking about tuna fishing. Only tried it once, went out to the Hippolytes with a mate in a tinnie with seriously underpowered gear - ended up feeding one seal and just getting all our gear trashed. Good fun though!
Have wondered about doing a chartered trip with a pro - all the right gear provided, put in the right spot for some action, might actually re-coup the trip cost with fillets in the freezer. I've seen ads for charters that cost about $140 per person for a group of ten.
So putting forward the idea, anyone interested for a forecasted flat sunny weekend sometime over winter, would be good to get a group booking.
Anyone had experience with these charters? It sounds a lot, but when I went with my mate it cost 50 bucks each in fuel for car and boat, lost heaps of line and lures, with nothing to show for it.
What are the odds of 10 of us each bagging a 20kg+ tuna?
What do'ya reckon? (we can discuss while waiting for wind at Doran's!)

Ok, that's what I was afraid of.
Maybe it's time to instigate Russ' windsurfer fishing comp - troll some lines from the longboards, Russ said he'd put up a big prize for the biggest fish caught.

Well, I reckon its time to start planning another wavesailing day. I had a couple of hours on Sunday morning paddle surfing at Carlton river mouth. As it turned out, there was a 5 - 8 knot cross -off wind. More than enough to catch waves with a 5.3 on a longboard. Didn't have a rig as only had a couple of hours before a family lunch with the mother in-law. Anyway, not exactly hard-core action but stll good fun for a "no wind" day.

Good photo Marlon, how the hell do you get out with a decent swell and hold onto the paddle. I'd be keen to give it a try especially through these no wind times. How about organising an SUP day at Carlton with some snags you're bloody good with the barbie

I am keen to get "got one" winter fishing sailboard championships underway. Let’s pick a good location Cremorne!! Next weekend with the bbq after?

I am keen; prize will be a Southern Sailboards trophy and bragging rights.

I want to get a SUP too, but it will have to go on the list for now. Just bought some 575 Grafton Paddle Sports kayaks, man are they tippy. We bought them to race with ie Winter Challenge, Freycinet Challenge, but I don't think I'll be able to get any speed up, I'll be too busy trying to stay in it. Oh well practice makes perfect I suppose.

OK let’s wait one week, but lets get excited for the week after, this will give everyone time to get their fishing gear ready and even look for a old race board to fish from.

The best gear is small floating lure with a diving bib on it use lightweight line and I think you are sure to catch something.

Does anyone have other rig setups to share?

Cheers Russ

OK Russ, count me in, don't like to skite about my acheivements but being as i am the current speed sailing record holder (23.99999 Knots) of Cremorne it goes without saying that i would pull out the biggest fish in the bay. Which day, Sat or Sun?

Russ count us in too (Clyde & I), we'll fish off our sea kayaks. I love fishing but then throwing them back, I don't like being a murderer and I don't like eating fish anyway. Sounds like a lot of fun, something different. Sinker & hook with a bit of bait on the end is my rig.

I reckon I'll be there.
Hey Kazz, here's some shots of my trolling fishing set-up for Cape York. I got an old yoghurt container (tapered ), cut some holes around the top and tied it to a piece of ply, and tied that to my decklines. A handreel slipped over the cone, and you could adjust your "drag" by moving the reel up or down the cone.
