Burrum Windfest 2016 - '10th Birthday Celebration'

prelim dates. Mon 7th March 2016 - Sat 12th March 2016.

Speed HQ is possibly moving to 'The Grand', which is situated on the esplanade further towards the boat ramp.

It is our intention for this coming event to push the hell out of it and encourage everyone to come. Help make our 10th birthday a big one. forget dwelling on the wind! come and make a holiday of it.

If you have thought over the past few years you'd like to come but haven't pushed the button then 2016 IS the year to do it!

the format is simple. longboard racing in the morning, speed/slalom racing in the afternoon and parties at night. we have boats on the water and a general area to sail depending on daily wind direction. it's mate against mate on the same stretch of water. turn up, strap on a gps and blast or battle it out on the race course against Australia best or do both!

lol, yeah seems like the previous one only finished... :-)

it's easy to get this first announcement out there because there are only 1-2 opportunities tide wise between xmas and easter and one of those is always march.

would really like to encourage a few more Tasy sailors to the event. we had ben nitschke last year.
I'm sure there are a bunch of raceboard and one design sailors about and I know there are some fast speed/slalom guys.

It does always look like a lot of fun and a great venue. Be good to get a Tassie contingent next year!

2 people, ocean recliner, 4wd towing 5m trailer(includes drawbar) $1482 return on Spirit
5200km @ 12l/100km @ $1.30litre = $810 plus a bit more say around $1000 (depends on type vehicle and fuel consumption)
$300 accommodation at event
accommodation while traveling. Depends on camping or room. $600

$3500 for 2 people, not including the thousands of dollars of food and refreshments. Obviously could be done a bit cheaper......or dearer depending on taste. A lot of driving! Think I'd fly and hire a car(limited gear though).

Ditch the trailer and load the car up cuts the cost down a bit.

I did a search on the ferry including car and trailer and it came back at my figures above. thought it was a bit cheap.

I looked up flights and a very rough search has it about $670 return from Hobart to Hervey Bay not including excess gear.

one of the other options I thought was load up a trailer or van with gear, 2 people drive and everyone else flies. split the costs.

think of the lucky people in the van.

take a week to get there stopping at different spots along the away. no matter the conditions you've got a van full of gear!

take a week on the way back to hit all the spots missed on the way up there.

turn right at Melbourne and head to WA never to be seen again.

Windfest update.

we have an event facebook page up and running.

Also very happy to announce we have added SUP's to the program.

Hervey Bay Stand Up Paddle are working with us to include Paddle Boarding in the Windfest program. Graham will be conducting try paddle board sessions for the general public during the event. The finale for the SUP program is a formal race on the final day of Windfest.
