I was just wondering whether many people had been windsurfing at bridport and what they thought of it. It is one of the only places i can regularly go windsurfing and saw my first windsurfer (other than me) today. Is it just not a desirable place to windsurf or is it just that there are other better places?

It looks like a great place to sail. I reckon it's more that there are other spots that are just as good nearer to where many sailors live, so they tend to sail more locally.

Hi Michy,

alot of launceston/northern sailors come to lagoon bay at low head. yesterday there were about ten of us on the water. it's a good spot for beginner-intermediate sailors as there's fair bit of flat water in the bay and a bunch of more experienced guys to hand out tips to guys like you and I.

if you do decided to make the trip make sure you come within 3 hours of high tide....otherwise you'll have a very dry windsurf

Bridport is an excellent place to sail. I've been out a couple of times there a long time ago.
Some great runs, awesome warm water, and lots of beach.
I think the only thing you need to watch for are the old jetty stumps.

The wind can be very 'dirty' coming over the land, but if you get clear of the point, you'll have some real nice runs.
I believe there are a couple of locals that sail there regularly - hook up with them, learn their knowledge!
Then fill in a spot guide template and email it to me :-) Get out there!
Tassie has so many awesome spots, but it is always nice to sail with someone else.

Hi Mmeyer,
I've been doing a few coastal runs lately, as a bit of an alternative to the river. I'd be very keen to do some longer runs with a sailing buddy.
If you were keen to hook up for some coast runs up that way it would be worth a look. Is it possible to get out to Waterhouse Point by 2WD vehicle? Bridport to Waterhouse point would be a good one I reckon.
On a sail from Lulworth to Weymouth a few weeks back I came across the entrance to Pipers River at Weymouth and it was a lot of fun. Would have been great fun on a waveboard.

Clarence sounds like a great idea but i don't think my skills are quite up to scratch yet and with school starting in just over a week i can't see it happening. Great idea though!

Yes Bridport can be great but off Bridport itself can be a bit qusty until you get well out with the north westerly we mostly have.I live at Waterhouse and also enjoy sail boarding . We should catch up .East of Waterhouse point ,towards Tomahawk is better for days when the prevailing NW are blowing.

For anyone that doesn't kinow Rog he's a cow cocky from Waterhouse (NE coast)
I caught up with him at the Dash for Cash yesterday he said we're all welcome to move onto his property which has miles of coast line, he has free accommodation and will cook us a roast so long as we give him 5 mins notice
Welcome aboard Rog to this very informative and educational forum that even Einstien would have used if he was alive today

The learn to sail day is coming up at Low Head. Maybe we could all catch up there?

What's it like sailing around the waterhouse/tomahawk area? Is it flat water or waves?

I will PM Rog and see what the deal is regarding access to the point near Waterhouse Island. If the wind is right next weekend I'd be keen to head up to Bridport and see what it would be like for a run out there.

It is about 30km from Bridport to the Point near Waterhouse Island which seems to have a big sandy beach. Apart from the last 5k or so, it is all along a sandy coastline, so nothing to worry about if something doesn't go to plan. In a typical NW wind (assuming it hits the land at the same angle as it does at Low Head), it should be a reach all the way from Bridport.

I'll call you this week Jason
