Hopefully an early one on the mid-coast on the way to work and then a late one at Seacliff on the way home from work!

Mid Coast tomorrow it there is swell. Low tide around 10ish, might pay to use an old fin. If it looks like it is swinging around to the west I might sail somewhere on the metro coast, maybe Seacliff if it gets strong. Always good jumping as you would know.

Fingers crossed the forecast is correct.

I'll be having a go (operative words ) at semaphor tomorrow, as that's my nearest beach (I
live out Gawler way). I hope the 20 kt wind will be kind to this learner. I went down there
today, hoping their would be a nice light breeze to have my first go, but their was SFA.

Its 844 and I'm about to go for a sail - Thinking about a downwinder - southport to U's or even moana as the swell is small and beachies at southport might be worth try out.

Sail from the port noarlunga carpark down through the hump to southport and down to seaford - someone drives us all back to grab the cars - this person has yet to be arranged!

Just be aware of a few dodgy sorts reportedly hanging around the Pt Noar carpark last time a fellow sailor sailed down there (2-3weeks ago)

Did anyone get out for a sail?

I checked the Mid at around 7 - 7:30 this morning and the wind was around 12 knot NE. Went back this arvo on the way home from work and it looked virtually the same.
It looked like it was blowing all day going by the flags out the front of work.

The down-winder sounds good Russ. Me, Pete and a couple of other guys done a coast run from Marino to Henley a few years back... awesome fun, should do more of it.

A few sailed at the mid - small waves at low tide got a good 1 1/2 hours of comfortable planing with 6.4 and skate - Chris H on his 6.1 and 85 - snapper was fun at about 330 a bit overdone on the 6.4 but dropped out at 5 - heard a few were out at middleton and Dave W said was a but a bit offshore.

The evil twin was out but a bit light for it I believe

yeah muzza,got the evil twin out 5.3 for me but like russ said very light,but managed a few small waves with effortless top turns and holding good speed on the wave, was impressed, none of my other boards surf like this one and the 80litres made gybing in light wind effortless,a well balanced board,twinnies may well be the go for our slower waves

I haven't tried the 80 which you took out today, so I wouldn't mind trying it out in lighter conditions with say a 6.2 wave-sail and a bit of swell.
The Evil Twin 74 which I'm riding now is just awesome. It's a bit hard to describe, but everything (bottom turns, top turns, gybes) feels super natural and it just rockets down the line... can't get enough of it!

Get in before the Aussie dollar pushes the prices of imports up (some distributors have already revised '09 board & sail prices).

Interesting that the board manufacturers and distributers did not reduce the prices of boards when the ozzie dollar when from 55 cents around year 2000 and increased to as high as 98 cents earlier this year. Now the dollar has fallen to around 70 cents they are talking about price increases? Sounds like a scam.

I had a **** day yesterday. It seemed to be windy everywhere except where I was! You needed a 10m and a boat to get going on the metro coast.

I can't speak for everyone, but some (or at least one) Sail brand have dropped their prices from last season to the 2009's.

I know several of the Kite brands have adjusted their prices up in the last few weeks. So far the Starboard prices haven't changed and I'm hoping they don't, but if the trend continues they 'may' increase some time soon.

But you're definitely right, over the long journey we haven't received the benefit of the high Aussie dollar.

Im with you Scotty, someone is making some good cash here in Australia. I have a friend who ordered a set of 09 sails over in Maui this year when the ozzie dollar was good. All his sails ended up being 1/2 price.

I'm not sure what the prices on Maui are like at the moment. When I was over there a few years ago it was much more expensive to buy gear over there than in Australia.

1/2 price sails? Even the dealers in Australia don't get them at that price!

Prices are a lot better for things like extensions (1/2 price) Boards (1/2 price), but booms and sails are comparable to here. This is from my experience.

The thing about Maui, is that the second hand gear is so much cheaper and better quality, plus there is more of it.

if i was really loaded! i wish.... and was going to buy a full new set of windsurfing gear. from my experience! it would be cheaper for me to fly to maui buy gear there and bring it back!! i saved enough on my new board which i brought over there to pay for a return air fare!!!

Problem is if we don't support a local windsurfing community there will be no events, demo's, sponsorships or readily available sailing gear when we break our masts, booms uni's etc.

It's a fine line between supporting local business and your own financial position- thankfully some crew can afford new gear each year and sell it second hand on to us tight arses when the new range comes out.

Mind you, just a bit of perspective here, the boards were 08 models, sold 2 months before 09 models were released.

Im with you Russ, we do need to support our local shops, without them we would not have events, sales support and so on, plus a place to go in and drool every weekend (I love windsurfing shops).

We actually held off buying too much stuff in Maui, one because we thought we were going to get slugged import duty of excess baggage, but also we wanted the service and backup we get form the shops just in case we needed warranty etc.

Well it looks like Muzza was right. Just got an email from Auswind putting all their prices up. Any new gear we need to get in will now be more expensive.
