Any ideas what local beaches would be okay for speedsailing?

Sellicks in an Easterly is meant to be good, very rare for this occurence,

Also inside the reef at Snapper in anything westerly, some great flat water on high tide.

Sometimes if the wind has a lot of west in it, it's possible to bear away at Kingston Park and pick a fast line through the swell (if any) on the way out. Not exactly flat water however.

I've spent a bit of time at KI recently and though I have'nt sailed there yet I've seen some great flat water spots and there seems to be more wind more often there. As with a few spots a change in wind direction can mean choppy or smooth water ,in front of the yacht club at Brownlow looks good and there are some sailors there . At Penneshaw where the ferry comes in is a big bay and I've seen it very flat and very windy on some occasions and a beautiful beach. I the near future I will be staying there for some time and will report what I find ,it might turn out to be a great place for long weekend sailing since the Victorians stole all our fresh water.

hey guys, i used to live on KI. to be honest out infront of brownlow IS the best speed spot in the state. dont care what anyone says. its chest deep for about 2k's perfect flat with 20 knot south east sea breezes. i just prefer sailing in waves! and the $300 boat trip will put you off great place to sail. if anyone is keen contact Tim Frears. he is a school teacher and is mad keen on windsurfing,

A few of the long term sellicks windsurfing crew say that they would sail the very far end on sellicks beach out along the edge of the hills toward Myponga and back with sheet glass and howling se'r of the hills - access has been limited south of sellicks now along the beach - maybe worth checking out late one howlin se'r before they die in april.

Hi Carl,
Port parham is my local speed spot and is flat as you can get it on lower tides ,iam not real sure about windsurfing at this spot due to the weed that floats around but it may be possible if your real keen to ride out the speed channel and get in deeper water. I only use this place for speed when the tide is lower than .9 , for windsurfing you may be able to use the channel if the weed isnt to bad. The wind is the same as the adelaide coast ,so top shelf stuff.
I also have a secret spot near wallaroo which may be the mecca for speed windsurfing, no weed super strong winds but its alot further to drive than port parham.

I reckon lots of spots up on Yorkes could be good for Speed sailing, Wallaroo, Pt Broughton, edithburgh etc.....might need to do some exploring

Had a look at port parham and thought it looked good. Consistent wind and flat water. Will be keen to try it soon. The weed and dodgy tides may be hard to work out but looks good apart from that.

If you venture to the Port Broughton area just up the road is Fishies Bay ,the right tide[low],south-south wester[prety common]hug the chanel bank .MAGIC!! Its my PB spot,34.1 on an old tiga and gaastra grind[the tide was a bit high that day and it was a bit choppy] Tim Wallaroo can be a top spot with the right wind southerlies best as you go to the west you get a combo of swell and chop[IMO]Ask Reiffo ,sailed there with him anumber of times.

Hey Carl, send me a pm when your thinking of going to port parham so we can meet up there so I can give you the goss on the spot for best conditions etc, Ive pulled 43knots max in around 25 knots of wind at this spot.

I've spen some time at port parham over the years as my grandparents have a place there, predomiently fishing i will admit, but actually cant remember it to well as i windsurfing spot. i have dome it there at times over easter at high tide but never tried the channel which i would thing might be to narrow and to direction specific... certainly good wind there and when the tide is in it's very shallow for quite a while, but when you do try it give us a yell for sure and will try catch you there!!!

Correct me if any of my memory was wrong Genetrix lol.

Hey Hamish , you are correct but it may be worth a shot for you guys since the lake is stuffed, the channel works coming in on a broad reach in a south westerly since you guys point high i think you should be able to get back out. The channel might be to narrow for windsurfing Iam not sure but if it wasnt and the weed didnt give you the ****s it would be a very quick spot for you guys, since the channel is narrow it would only cater for 1 or 2 guys I would think.
Port Broughton fishies bay is sweet to, worth a shot aswell. I did some speed kiting in port broughton by the caravan park and also near the boat ramp wall but somebody told me its a 4 knot limit

The Fishies Bay run is only about 500m,you can straighten up around dog leg 2-300m then run out further along the chanel markers,youve got to stick pretty close to the markers because the channel is verry narrow in places 3-4m[not a spot for a crowd]I've looked at Port Broughton several times north of the boat ramp,the chanel runs north slightly north west,and each time i,ve looked it hasnt been quite westerly enough to try,YET.Launch from the boat ramp and i think from the map at the ramp the 4knot limit is only abuot 100 mtrs to the north .looked in front of caravan park as well,just a bit conserned about water depth on low tide.

Just took the young bloke to footy - the Onkaparinga river between the Pt noarlunga Footy club and river road looks like a possibility at high tide with a nw'r or se'r

looks a far distance as well.

I did have a look at victor harbor when down there recently. I wasn't sure which one was kent reserve but a couple of spots looked okay. Will try port parham - just have to watch out for the big fishies

Might pay to chuck a weed fin in ya kit

yeah i checked the channel out saturday for weed and didnt seem as much as other places at parham but still a good weed fin may be whats needed . That tide height in the vid was around 0.8 which is as high as you can go to use the channel as a speed run.

I windsurfed for 16 yrs and was fascinated when I first saw kiting in 2000, thought about it for 2 yrs, tried it, and haven't looked back. More fun, more time on the water, one kite and board from 10 to 32 knts. etc,etc.
Mind you I used to luv windsurfing on those gale force days at Goolwa Lake and later Boggy Lake, when I was the only one in control, ripping on a 3.5m RAF speed and my home made speed board, while everone else had pulled out. Wish I had a GPS back then
Oh yeah, and seeing windsurfers bogging down / subplaning in lulls and lighter winds doesn't exactly EXCITE us kiters.

Ha ha well i might have to take my brothers board that i do have a weddie for!!! I'm sure well work it out, if it becomes a good spot i might have to invest in a decent weed fin for my main board. Anyway keep in touch, dad (who has holidayed there since he was younger than me) doesn't reckon it will work unless high tide (Easter time) which is when Ive sailed there in previous years. no harm it giving it a go though i guess, might be able to point up and down the channel... never know
