Yeah a as Muzza said - a Southern Right whale I believe - they were amazing just floating around out the back all day - looked great when they just lay there with their tail or flippers in the air.

Sometimes they disappear under the water and pop up in front of you - thankfully everyone steered the 30-100ms clear as per parks and wildlife regulations

Nice photos Bert - Bet you wish that plane arrive d a bit earlier Darren - I think Dave Lane has a little footage that he's trying to edit - so maybe later in the weekend there will be some more to see.

They were from Middleton beach about 6k's east of Victor Harbor. We call it Day Street as the surfboard riders club back in the sixties had a shed on the sand hills (Four Point i think) and even in the early eighties you could park on top of the sand hill at the bottom of Day street to go for a surf.

Was a small swell and nww. This is the time of year that we can get some really nice days down there.

Its a slow sloping beach with 100 - 300 metres of soft wave peaks (dependant on size) on the way out and stretches all the way to the Murray mouth. Can be a little fickle and hard work when bigger - one of those 5-30 knt places where a 4.7 can be not enough on the inside and you need some float too way too much and out the back and on a wave face - all on the same run.
