1st quote in.....................$1000.................................TOLL................. 2700 LONG,800 WIDE,400 HIGH,30KGs aint going to QLD at that price!!!!
Had a surfboard delivered from Melbourne (VIC) to Port Lincoln (SA) via TOLL truck freight.
Now this surfboard (7'8") was boxed. The box measured around 8'6" length x 35" wide x 10" high x 20kg max. and was the original box (minus two surfboards) used to freight three boards out from the USA. So it wasn't a small box by any means.
It cost me $100 and this was only 3 months ago.
For interests sake Virgin freight quoted me $480 just to get it from Melbourne to Adelaide... pffft!!!
Here's the trick - don't get a quote over the phone as the shock will mostly put you in a coma. Go to your nearest TOLL depot and ask them for a quote to pick up from the depot.
My quote over the phone from TOLL was around $500, yet walking into the depot saved me hundreds. This will only work if you are picking up from the depot. Paid cash on delivery, and organised TOLL to pick up the surfboard from a private suburban address in Melbourne. The pickup depot will/should give you a freight number (it identifies to TOLL which depot it is being picked up from and that freight charges will be paid for on pickup also).
This is my recent experience and NO this is not mate's rates. I was just a customer walking into a depot off the street trying to catch these guys off-guard. It worked...
