went down to Goolwa and had my first go at windsurfing.when I got there the water was glassy no wind so I rigged up and tried uphauling after 4 attemps falling off I finally got it. then I dropped the uphaul and did it for about 10 times and did it every time.im a natural footer.so then I tried it goofy foot that was a a lot harder but finally got it.then the wind picked up a bit and I was slowly moving along then its time to do a tack and come back.i got 3/4 way round and fell off.tried 2 more times but fell off..so next time I have to master a slow tack.good fun but its going to take me along time just to do a tack.sore arms time for a beer.cheers

try a slow gybe you might find it easier to balance as you go round the back of the board (more volume and width) rather than the front as with a tack. Mind you tacking is better for staying upwind.

Which board sail combo did you end up with ??

the board is a bic techno 293 205ltr of volume and some second hand sails and masts for 100 bucks.im using a 5.3 sail.i weigh 108kg.got to loose a lot of weight and keep practicing the basics.

Best thing I could suggest is go sailing in the SEA its warmer, cleaner and you see the bottom.

Not a bad gear choice for you, you will need a slightly bigger sail so you can lean back on it in a bit of wind.

Yes, Goolwa Lake is cold right now ! Watch out for Seals !
If you know where to go, it's only waist deep over a large area and that can help with the learner process..
