Interest in what you guys used back in the day.

Me, started on a Yipsy (not sure of the spelling) whaler. I think the boom was well over 2 metres. No battens. Think it come with a standard and storm sail. One fixed boom fitted both sails.

Bombora tri fin. With matching sail. From memory ( bit fuzzy) one small batten at the head which was the ducks guts back then.

Tyronsea stinger. With a 5.7 Simmer sail.

Several Bic boards and rigs, 750 was a great slalom board.

Cutloose wave board that was Ty’s board before changing to Starboard.

Old speed board that I think Ty still has in his shed. That thing really was quick, loved using it at the spit on Lake George. Beachport.

Last but not least, before crossing over to the dark side was a Strapper wave / slalom. I loved it but everyone else reckon it was a slug.

I can remember buying a set of Pyrde Combat wave sails that got a floggen as well.

They were the days. Yeah right.

after spending a summer on a wally and tencate, we moved onto a bombora exit and a wild winds sail.

this was a rig someone sold complete as they were getting out of the game in the mid nineties and our first "short board". the wild winds sail has a cam that sat in the cutout. you manually inserted in into the baton after rigging and secured it to the mast with a velcro strip. despite how cludgey it sounds it actually worked ok. if you didn't want it, you could remove it and sail it as a rotational foil.

from then we were hooked and trawled the trading post buying almost anything remotely sailboard related. the worst was called a Cobra that felt as long as a wally but tapered to a point at the back; a huge elongated teardrop. the worst part was the mast track which was an exposed long piece of metal that was attached to the top of the board, waiting evily for you to open up a toe on its sharp edge.

last weekend I saw a guy on a tired bombora, tattered "z" boom and an old baggy sail that looked eighties to me. he was doing pretty well amongst all the new gear.

Okay here's mine:

started on a tyronsea 295 and wild winds 5m (which is at the bottom of the ocean - another story)

then a wild catz wave (asym - awesome board - made locally I think), north sails ezzy wave

then moved up to a windforce, added an NS infinity to the quiver

then a couple of wind energys, and a zeta i reckon

then a few production f2s, gaastra foilpro.

Jeez, forgot about wild wind.
They were a pretty good sail, clear panels and made a fair amount of noise when rotating the camber.

I mentioned a cutloose board but now I'm pretty sure it was a windforce. Shane shaped some good boards back then.

windsurfer (original) then got a Div II firstly from sailboard then a hollow one, a Liang Liang.
Then got a Mistral Take off, then a sailboard 295 (which I snapped) then F2 bulit, F2 lighting, Then a few elite custom boards, a Bic Electic rock, a Tiga 275, Then some more custom boards. Now I am into twin fin Hiflys among others.
