Hi Guys,

I'm thinking of immigrating to Adelaide from Ireland.. i'm fed up with sailing in 6c! Really struggling to fnd any info on wavesailing in SA on the web.

Do you get much cross shore head high wave sailing near to Adelaide? Really appreciate your help as my decision to move there will hinge on it!

ps I know there are better spots in OZ, the points system only ony allows me entrance to south australia.

Thanks

Hi Neily - Check the Photo section - Mid Coast- seaford etc (45 mins from CBD) mailnly winter but summer SE'rs further south can be good if the swell's from the w/sw and the gullies are blowin (regular occurrance during summer) It won't be every week with cross of waves - but we have some good sessions over the year. It's rarely I don't sail at least once a week (limited by work) all year round

Middleton winter nw'rs.There is also some great bump and jump locations that go off during summer and winter.

Some seasons are good and some are ordinary - if you like travelling great sailing in the South east and the west coast as well - limited by your fear of sharks, isolation and petrol costs.

There is a small but enthusiastic group of wave sailors (20 or so) - some are currently looking at a wavesailing group and topping up the local regular wave events with some social expression sessions

we probably sail as much in the year (except April) as anyone else in the country.

Most people get a way with a floaty freewave for the light wave days and awave board

It's a great place to live

Plus Adelaide fkcn rocks, just dont come here for the night Life!

Adelaide and SA are good places to sail, I wouldnt say fantastic, WA would be my pic for strong consistant wind an waves, but if you are prepared to travel, be flexible, have a good range of kit, you will sail most weekends (or a cheeky day off during the week)

Adelaide Sailors are very friendly

Pics look great, i'm fully prepared to drive a couple of hours at weekend. Does seaford look like that often? Sun, wind and waves.... a rare sight over here

Hi Neily. 6c.. that's cold. There is plenty of things to do in Adelaide--
The hills (pushbikes, motorbikes, cars etc), and the sea and lakes.
I wouldn't call Adelaide people the politest in Australia, however, the
sail/kite boarding scene here is very friendly and helpful. I doubt you
will be disappointed with the move :)

Are you able to visit for a few weeks first to see if it's the right decision ?

BTW I'm originally from east london.

Not often enough!

Mainly during winter 13 degree water and 14-18 degree air

Summer 28-42 degrees, 21 degree water and sail in boardies and a vest.

But there is quite often a nice surf to be had along the coast if the winds light.

some other spots - robe easter windsurf contest - goin for 30 years

Middleton two weeks ago - 28 degrees - one of many days at this location this winter / spring

Last one is a Favourite summer location 40 degrees and 30 knts and 55 minutes from cbd

Coming over for a few weeks would make sense, but i've been to west oz and loved it so even if I hate Adelaide (which looks very unlikely judging by those pics) I can go anywhere in OZ after two years under the immigration scheme.

The good thing about Adelaide over Perth is that you can access some decent surf within an hours drive. Perth's beach breaks are poor quality so you gotta head hours north or south.

Looking out the window right now and its 30knots sunny and mast high. Sounds good but its 6c again and i cant face the pain of the cold! Gettin old!

Thanks for all you advice and the pics, it looks like Ill get more fun sailing there than i would here. Will get the paperwork started

I worked in shop refrigeration sales for 6 years then fancied a change so i'm currently selling coffee and coffee machines to coffee shops and hotels. Worked in other sectors but all in sales. Hopefully will get something sorted!

Feck, it looks like it will be a year before everything is sorted. Still, I'm sure it will come round quick.
