I was walking through the beach access at Sems today (see link below) and I stepped on a snake.

www.google.com.au/maps/@-34.8467377,138.476976,28m/data=!3m1!1e3

To my knowledge, there's been half a dozen snake incidents at this exact spot over the the past five years. Snakes either crossing through the access way, or on access way. This was a very close call and if it had bitten me, I wouldn't be here typing up this post (either in hospital recovering or very dead). So please use caution when using this access way.

Note: I contacted the council, they responded very quickly.

Scary. Just curious, do you know what species was it?

No, I was distracted - Women walking past me told me I had stood on a snake and took off into the shrub. It was probably a Brown.

I have seen a brown snake on beach at day st, quite near water, thought it was seaweed, till it wriggled away, lesson learned.

The Little blighters are everywhere

There's a black snake that appears from under the bottom steps at Ueys when it warms up - seen from time to time warming in the sand also had the poop scared out of me last summer walking my gear up the Ueys ramp with a big fat browny baking next to the concrete on a mild summer day - wasn't sure which way to go - he didn't seem too bothered tho

I've also seen them wiggling across the road into the bushes in the Middle of the Triggs carpark as well - lots of bunnies along the cliffs to feed them I suppose

Most of the Joe Blakes up Sems way are Browns... seen them most summers some time... Don't annoy them: unlike a lot of species, they'll have a go at you if they feel cornered, and they are very fast indeed. If you do get bitten, apply a pressure bandage above the bite (ie closer to the body) and get to hospital ASAP. There is a good anti-venene, and all Emergency Departments should have some.

We usually see one or two around our place in Belair around this time of year. They start getting into higher activity levels as the days warm up and they're hungry, grumpy, and on the prowl... but they are also a protected species => only registered snake handlers should go near them!

Lastly, Port Adelaide very quick to respond. They were there within 10min of my phone call. They told me to report every single incidence I see. That way they make the assessment to either keep or remove the snake etc.

You gotta admit the irony Jay!! All those conversations we've had about the Boggy snakes and where does one almost get you? Still: if you're gonna get bit, much better in Sems than Le'Bog.

I saw my first this season on my MTB at Cobblers last weekend. Sounds like they're on the move.

Yes, that is true, but then I (impulsively) bought a mountain bike and now I'm obsessed with that.
Adrenaline? Tick. Technical? Tick. Gets me outdoors? Tick. Good cross training? Tick. Expensive? (sigh) Tick.
Cobbler's is ten from my house and has excellent downhill (for my level) so with daylight savings I can go after work and be back for dinner.
So until (when?) I seriously hurt myself, my ocean-going and dodging-dune-snake aspirations are on hold.

No wind = MTB
Trails closed due to fire ban + no wind = roady

dont leave your board covers on grass at boggy, you might take something unwanted home in car.
