It was onshore and crappy at Robe until 4pm, then it cleaned up, picked up to 22 - 27 knots and went cross off. Just shows for a Robe day it is crucial to get the underlying wind a with bit more easterly. Worth the day trip though - this makes 3 good sails for 3 day trips in a week....

3 day trips in a week - why not just sty down there - three tanks of fuel - 2400 kms - friggn keen or slightly crazy!!!!

Sounds like your having fun down there .Would of been good to keep Nene valley a secret but once your been there you fall in love with the place.Sounds like you caught up with my Dad (HAAK)on the weekend hope he still ripping it up.
Few of us are coming down soon so I'll let you Know.

hey taa good to hear from ya. met your old boy about 3 years ago to be honest, great guy. he was my father inlaws boss many years ago and he knows most of my miss's family. yes i am flogging this place a bit lately, just a bit over everyone talking up robe so much. cant remember too many point or reef breaks down there in the 25 years ive been sailing.

Sorry to dissapoint you TAA but Nene has been known about by lots of us for years. Its just that its a long way to go, and the wind is fickle that stops it not being popular. I have sailed it on a North/NW and it was awesome. If it got regular strong seabreezes Im sure it would be as good as some WA spots. And yes, agree with Pilchard that potential around PT Mac is also awesome, only the wind lets it down but agreed awesome if you live near there and can get there when its on...happy sailing :-)

So the wind is fickle and lets it down.Is there something you are trying to tell me.Born in Mt Gambier and lived ther for 30 years and 19 years of that I was sailing and surfing.Never had trouble with wind or waves .Built a shack at Nene Valley and had that for five years, And if I had my way I would shift back .
Not saying its better than W.A but it bets most of Adelaide

Sorry TAA if i offended you, i think you might have taken me the wrong way, but I do call spending two weeks in the southeast in the middle of Feb and getting 1 sail fickle. (maybe inconsistent is a better word)

Please read my comment again, i actually sing the praise of the place and to quote said "It would be as good as WA if it got regular seabreezes"....so certainly not trying to argue that it can not get good, in fact awesome. I am also aware of the cloud bank that can hang over the coast and it can be windy at Robe, but not windy enough at Nene, and that the same can be true for Robe, when Semaphore would be howling, abliet flat with no waves.

But yes I am sure you have had runs of awesome conditions, just not easy to pick for a day trip or a longer trip if you have to book leave in advance.

BTW - have been sailing for 25years and going to the southeast for 20 so am not basing my comment one the one experience above, and certainly not trying to negate your local knowledge. I wish i had been lucky enough to live down there for as long as you did. :-)

You didnt offended me I just telling you how it is.the lower south east is a great spot and works in diffrent ways.Yes it is a long way but I would all ways go home before Robe

having spent a lot of time at robe/beachport i can completely understand why robe on a se attracts adelaide folk there, hey i was one. so sory robe for hanging poo on you. i also agree that pt mc can be less windy than a few hours north on any given day. cape jaffa can be howling and then robe has a mere puff. the bom tend to break up the days forcast into two sections on occasions ie north and south of beachport this on the best part is acurate. if u want a definate hang on tight sail down pt mc make the trip when bom say 23-28k u wont miss out. can we put some pressure on the bom to have a station here as they have two in robe then the nearest south is pt nelson.

It was an average swell - bout 2 foot. But it was bareaways after 4pm and a good shape for some lip smakn fun. I usually sail about 1 km north of third ramp. Seems to pick up more swell there.
