No disrespect Jn1 but that is not quite how I experienced St Kilda. I'm a local sailor at Elwood(next beach south) and I would say St Kilda has a view great spots to sail but not with weed or rocks. Depending on wind direction it can be super choppy or relative flat but with gusty wind. The St Kilda marina has great sailing in S seabreeze(not common in July) other spots including infront of the Oalais can be flat blasting in Northerlies but they are gusty( mire common in winter) then more North there is Sandridge beach which is good in South Easterlies. There are always people sailing at the marina or drop by Elwood sailing club for some advice and action. Good chance there will be people out on windy days. Also dawson st in Elwood/Brighton has a good launching spot fir Southerlies. There will be a wave crew there if it hits 22knts +. But no need for weedfins or what so ever. Maybe a jelly fish fin can be handy! Great sailing there.
Thanks Remmy. I'll keep that in mind if I ever cross the border
