Taking family to Robe for a long weekend this weekend (Sat-Tues)...looks like there's a decent swell (in fact pretty huge?) The fact that I'm not too confident in the waves, are there spots along the beach for some small waves, jumps, chop-hops etc? Also tempted to make the trip to Lake George for some speed runs...anyone else floating around?

I'm also bringing my SUP & mtb for if/when the wind drops? Btw, I'll be spending every 'other' minute with my family.

Cheers Hail, the update is that a mate is coming over for a couple of nights with his family...now looking at Lake George for a Saturday morning sail.

Is there a track in from the North of the lake? (ie; fastest way in from Robe) I've only driven to the spit from Beachport, which seems to be a long way around!

I would try 1st ramp at Robe if the swell is big.
I don't think you can access the spit from the northern side of the lake.

I think you can get in from the buggy club off bog lane....pretty good sand action in the 4wd, will take you longer though

Thanks guys, I checked out the aerial on google & there looks like a track in from Bog Ln as you mentioned. Taking the Hilux, so might be a chance to test out my 4wding (lack of) ability!

There is some sort of row of buildings on the north shoreline - I wonder if it's private property or not? I guess we'll find out?!

Sailhack , there is a small gravel road just across from the woakwine cutting, you will see it where the camera sign is on the robe/beachport road, don't go boggy lane a waste of time, this road this will put you on the top of the big lake but easy to sail upwind to the spit, the big lake is very choppy if it was me I would go around into beachport and drive out to the spit and sail on the middle lake. the middle lake is where all the flat water is, not sure if the lake has been opened to the sea yet but should be by now, I would join you but am stuck here in warm sunny windy maui for another week.

I would agree with JimBob, on the aerial view it looks like getting to the northern side from bog lane is easy but we went there last year and it was a bit tricky with signs on gates saying private property etc. Best spot to go is in from beachport and up to the spit. We ended up four wheel driving from the spit and back to robe, took us about an hour and a half to get back through some pretty serious and fun tracks. I think we even ended up on one of the buggy club tracks.... either way, not the quickest way to get to the lake!

hey there hack hope you enjoy robe, it will be super windy so bring your small stuff.
i think it will be wsw all weekend so first ramp might have a couple of feet on it as theres meant to be over 6m of swell.
same goes for b port, the swell tapers off towards the town.
going into b port then out to the spit is by far the best option, if you get adventurous dont go on the back beach beaches or you will get stuck guaranteed!!!
one day on your way home from the southern ports i can and im sure with mr grumpy (high as a kite HAAK) we can show you around our breaks and save you a quid or two.

Thanks guys - had an awesome sail on the North lake - (didn't get Jimbob's note in time, re; choppy lake). Went through Beachport to spit, and decided to stay on the North side of the spit as it was nicely sheltered & warm for the families to relax & explore, although a bit offshore & a long walk out to sail...(stamped on a house brick & cut my foot about 150m from shore!)

Got a good mixture of flatwater blasting & chop-hopping (with some wave riding in the middle of the lake during the gusts!!!), and way overpowered on my smallest gear!

Robe looked very enticing too! But only had the one day & decided to go the lake. We spent the rest of the time touring the beaches with the 4wd (Btw, how freaky is Nora Creina!?), a couple of SUPs doing laps of Lake Fellmongery at the caravan park & riding around Robe on the pushy's with the ruggies.

When I was down there talking with the local Publican he was told that they wont be opening up Lake George to the sea because all the drains were full and there would be more than enough water to keep the lake topped up.

Choco thanks for the heads up on the lake not being opened I know the drainage board boss well will catch up with him today to find out whats happening,
got home yesterday with a bag full of speed fins, got the new techtonics 21 nimad and picked up a box of anders port tack assy fins for 25 bucks each, got a full set 18 to 28 doubt I will use over 24 you can try them out if you like next time you are down. they should be sweet for the nm runs.
