Well after 12 months dad and i had our annual holiday at goolwa... was a great weeks sailing, just glad to be back on the water - hopefully manage to keep it up. Only broke one boom and a baton in one of my sails, special thanks to Tim for helping repair the boom late last night... Thanks to dad for getting out the camera a few times - Video is nothing exciting but feel free to pick on anything, any advice appreciated ;)

need a lot more downhaul on that Koncept and run your boom a bit lower to settle the board down a bit more and you then might been able to get the sail locked back into the deck better. ( i have Koncepts too )
bear off more downwind before you gybe.

your sailing alot better then some dude.

my observations are:
send your back hand back a bit before and during the gybe up until you swap sides of the boom, this spreads the load a bit and helps control the sail alowing you to lean into it a bit harder and maintain speed.

Funny, I was wondering just the other day how you were Bubs, good to see you on the water mate

thanks for the advice guys... despite the chop there actually was not very much wind at all at goolwa, so i had absolutely no downhaul and no outhaul on the sail to try get as much power as possible out of it!!! maybe i went too far though? i prob shoulda got the smaller board (90L) off the ute but was too lazy. defs trying to improve my gybes, make them a bit smoother etc. bearing down wind makes it so much better but it was actually a pretty difficult day to sail, with 3 tossa jet skies just down wind of where im gybing i was trying to stay upwind a touch. Never thought of dropping my boom down though but this prob is a fair point - i need to shorten my harness lines and give it a crack i reckon ;) its great to get video so you can see your mistakes and with any luck improve on them!!!

had a ball the past week as goolwa so all the more motivation to get out more...

Without knowing your hight or how long your lines are now, I'd say don't shorten your lines Bubs

Just spotted your post, was wondering what had happened too you as I hadn't seen any post for yonks. Great to see you back on the water.
I just completed Guy Cribb skills session over here two weeks back.
On the sail flip, go underhand grip and under front arm on the first grab on the boom other side, dont go overhand, its too restrictive.

I rewatched Gem Hall's gybe section and a Guy Gribb youtube at the start of the summer as revision. The under hand grip was something that I had missed as I was learning them. Using this grip has improved my step gybes on the big gear heaps this season.

i'm always underhand grip with my front hand and over on my sail hand as i find it easier to sheet in that way. but i always thought it was important to change the front hand to an over grip and slide it right to the the front of the boom as you come into your gybe? might be worth me seeing some of these videos!!!
