Wind is looking crap in Vic this weekend so my bro in law and I are going to Robe to play in the sand. This is bound to bring good winds to the area as I won't be bringing a board.

Any suggestions from you guys in the know where to get the best crayfish feed at Robe on a Sat. night. Decor not important.

I'm not an expert here but the 'Sails' restaurant is meant to be quite good.

Lobster/crayfish (whichever) were half the price at the fish&chip shop right on the wharf compared to the popular fish&chip shop in the main street.

id envite you to where ive been dining on cray but its strictly alfresco and the ambience is that of a cat v12 marine deisel roring with wonderful views of the southern ocean during our steam home to the bay.

Jimbob, I definately should have brought a board or two - sitting at a lookout drinking beer watching the swell with a nice 25kt cross-shore was like torture.

And Pilchard, that kind of alfresco dining would have been awesome. I probably saw your boat when we went for a stroll around the marina. I'd much rather be dining on one of those 48 - 60 footers in the southern ocean than my 19 footer which is a bit more like the 650 Signature moored there. Us trailer boaters look pretty amateur compared to the pros. But then again, a thousand bucks worth of fuel (like I saw on the marina bowsers) would get me at least 750 nautical miles so there are advantages to being small.

I'll keep the Kingston recommendation for next trip which hopefully will involve more sailing and fishing as well as sand driving.

Might be more to go round after the Chinese news - hey Pilchard from the previous post it sounds like you have a bit to do with the fishing industry down there - how does this affect the SE - how much of an big impact does it have if you can't sell on and recover costs - do you just stop going out or what happens

Russ all the cray boats at Beachport and Southend have not even bothered going out the last few days, $25 bucks a kilo is all that a couple of buyers are paying while the other buyers don't want any at all, apparently the chinese are buying zero at the moment, and industry put all there eggs in the chinese basket and went for the big cash, never hardly went under $80 last season, $25 is running at a loss, plus the goverment took 2 months of the season,

on the plus side just had another 3 arvo's on the 4-2 and 4-7 has been a fantastic November down here for me.

has been a good start to the season fishing wise but the price plummit meant we were off the water for three days but two of those days were unfishable because of the weather which meant i still got on the water(sailing) at nene yesterday and it was mast high out the back and 3/4 mast high inshore and 30k se side off.
we got $35/kg today but it was $20/kg. only 3 vic boats and half of the sa fleet were out today from port mac. i heard the factorys were sending too much into china and not declaring it and that has caused all this, to the point were they sent a container of live fish back home.
we vic fisho's fish for 10 months and the sa guys only for 5-6 months
its a buyers market so stock up while the goings good
