G'day !
Im new to windsurfing and have only been out on the board afew times down at seacliff, it was good but soon got abit choppy. Where are some good places for beginners ? Ive heard u need a permit 4 windsurfing in westlakes .......... is that right ?
Would be greatfull for any hints and tips

Goolwa is good on the river from the Mariner Outlet is on a SW. West lakes as far as I know you don't need a permit but the wind can be a bit inconsistent due to the houses and other buildings.

Great to hear that there are more people getting into windsurfing in SA keep it up

no permit needed for west lakes..... that for kitesurfers on lots of adelaide beaches now days!!!

Goolwa is a great spot for learning... if anything goes wrong u just drift in downwind and always your gear back up. very flat also which helps a lot.

Boggy lake is another good flat spot. you can stand up anywhere which really helps and walk gear back if needed.

Milang is also another excellent learning spot where you can stand up the whole way and drift in downwind. bit choppier than goolwa and boggy if the wind blows up as it's more open but still not bad at all.

hope this helps a bit. have you got any gear yet??? if you do what have you got? when every your out always come up and talk to people. ive always found you get a lot of pointers from the local windsurfers as they are a very helpful and friendly bunch of guys and girls... might seya about on the water hopefully!!!

Hi Jo,
If you don't mind doing a bit of driving Milang is your best option.
Flat water, shallow and nice rigging area.
The best thing about Milang is if you have (another) frustrating day you've only got a short walk to the local pub. Plenty of young single blokes there too... 80 is still young isn't it?

Hi Jo. I'm a knob windsurfer as well. I found gusts and wind shadows easier to
contend with than waves when first starting out, so West lakes isn't a bad proposition.
I'm progressing to sea and waves now. I live up north. I find the easiest (and closest)
beaches to be Largs Bay and The Wall. Cheers Ja

sell the windsurfing kit and buy a kite- all the hot young single guys kite. Windsurfers don't even wear boardies over their wetties, what's up with that ?

But seriously- Milang is sweet, hope to see ya there....

In between the reef at Pt Noarlunga isn't a bad spot as long as you can up haul and turn around, it's fairly protected.

If anyone is keen, Goolwa channel is looking OK today, we will be there most of the day if you want to come down. On sunday there were 4 chicks in the water, out numbering the guys (almost)

You guys were right, heading down south was a great idea. We spent the day down at Milang on Saturday, was a good chance to get a bit of practice in with out the choppy waters and falling onto rocks ! Top day

I love the southern windsurfing areas!!! I sailed at Murray Mouth the other day for the first time such a nice place to sail. I am heading back to Goolwa on tuesday until wednesday. I know there will be 2 windsurfers down their at the minimum.

Hey Jo7, i'm with airush geoff on this one. I reckon by the amount of thumbs down airush has received, the kitesurfers have a much better sense of humor as well .
